"Wonder why im paying for computer games for my grown up son....would be my first though. " Sacreligious. You can't call a playstation a computer, it's just a silly Games Console. I'll stick up for adult gamers but I'll never stick up for consoles. Games consoles are not even in the same league as proper gaming PCs. A football analogy would have games consoles as the Sunday pub league & Gaming PCs as the premier league. Consoles have absolutely nowhere near as much processing power or graphical power as a gaming pc. A £350-£400 PC from PCWorld can't even run today's graphically intense games. Hell, just my nVidia GTX580 graphics card cost £450, the same as a brand new PS4 or Xbox, my motherboard & 4.2GHz quad core processor was another £300 & that's without the price of the ram, hard drive, atx case, fan controller, etc. Last year for release, the consoles "boasted" the new consoles were running the new DDR5 graphics memory, ha, PCs have been using DDR5 ram on GPUs for years. Proper gaming PCs can cost £1000 upwards & most gamers build their own, it's a huge billion pound business. Games are designed & built on PCs but have to be dumbed down a lot just to run on consoles. There are so many games now that have an 18 certificate that there are just as many adult gamers as kids. Plus a lot of the war games are on line too so you can play with friends, family & clan mates, even if they live in different countries. I run a Battlefield 4 war game clan with 48 members so far worldwide, our youngest being 22 & our eldest member being 63. Being a war game, most, not all, of our members are either in their countries armed services or retired from service. You're not playing against the computer but actual real people. Good fun, especially when you are all chatting too using Skype, Teamspeak or Ventrillo.

"if you bought your 26yo son a £450 playstation for xmas and he sold it 3mths later to buy his jeremy kyle type gf an iphone?." At that price - he's a bit too old to not be buying his own presents. Maybe go to the betting shop and put a 50p bet on that he is a father by the end of the year, and give him it.

Tell him to buy his own, surely at 26 he is working & has enough money." At what age are you meant to stop buying Christmas's presents? ? I always thought it was a for life thing with family.

"if you bought your 26yo son a £450 playstation for xmas and he sold it 3mths later to buy his jeremy kyle type gf an iphone?." My opinion is that a gift if freely given should have no strings attached to it therefore it was his to do as he pleased with. I wouldn't be happy that he thought so little of it that he sold it soon afterwards though but it was his choice to do as he pleased with his own property. What is a Jeremy Kyle type girlfriend?

You have saved me the trouble. Must be quite sad to live with no hobbies at all. How do you cope? " This question needs some explanation. It makes little sense. Having a hobby is fine. I have many. But I realise that they are so boring to other people that little more than edited highlights is all that anyone wants to hear. Balance is about not inflicting too much of it on others andand expecting them to care/be impressed. That is why people write in a forum because there is an expectation or wish that their musings will be of interest to the conversation. When I say something very dull, as has been known. (I am an engineer) I expect to be told quickly and in no uncertain terms. I then learn to be careful with what rubbish I inflict on others thereafter. I am now one of the worlds great orators as a result.

But there's no need to get insulting over things. It's just downright rude. Take you being an engineer for example. Some people find it boring, some don't. As well as being a computer engineer, I'm also a qualified mechanic, so to me, engineering is not boring. I find it interesting. But if I did find it boring, I wouldn't dream of calling you names & slating you, my parents brought me up better than that. What 10 people find boring, 10 will be interested in it. There's no need to start putting people down. That can also be construed as bullying. I find football boring & a waste of time, I love my motorsport, but I'm not going to tell someone that likes it they are boring, have no life & they are an anorak just because they know a lot about it.

Not really sure why people are questioning why he bought it for him though, it's his son, it was for Christmas why would the son need to buy his own Christmas gifts?" Whenever someone posts that they've bought a gift like this for one of their kids no matter what their age people come on and say that they shouldn't have. One guy posted that he was queuing for a computer game once and was told in various ways that he was a bad parent

One year I gave my grown up daughter £650 to pay for one of her OU units as she didn't have the money. Another year I bought her a used car since her old one was clapped out - and I'd bought her that pne years previously. My attitude is, if I have the money, why would I watch her struggle? She's always worked, doesn't drink, smoke, do drugs and is keen on bettering her life.
