"Sad to see the news. All those dead soldiers and the billions spent on getting rid of Saddam, and it looks like its going to shit out there, and another Warlord rising in promenance. Was Western intervention really worth it? Should the West go back in again if the Iraqi government cant sort it?" We're sort of North West really....

"(him) I think what is happening now was inevitable. I think they went about it the wrong way. I think it was right to dispose of the evil, tyrannical Sadam Hussain & give the country back to the Iraqi people, but... we didn't finish the job properly. It's not just ok to chase the Taliban or Al-Qaeda out of a country because they will just regroup & go in again. A few years ago, when we had them on the run, NATO should've sent forces to chase them wherever they went & destroyed them fully. They need to be relentlessly hunted down & wiped out. The Taliban & Al-Qaeda will always be around & will always try to take over city's & countries unless they are totally eradicated. I reckon 12-18 months after we have pulled out if Afganistan, the Taliban will go back in in greater numbers because they are still allowed to exist. We need to wipe them out for totally for the good of our national security & for the stability of the Middle Eastern world." Wiping them out totally isn't an option. Actually many men in Iraq and Afghanistan were recruited to the Taliban not because they agreed with the ethos of the organisation but because of cultural aspects. Western forces killed a male family member, and in those cultures the men were duty/honour bound to join the fight against western forces. Also the attitude, particularly of American forces, recruited more. America didn't set up an appropriate infrastructure before pulling out of Iraq, thereby leaving it open to another warlord. It was a sitting duck. Particularly in light of the Arab Spring. They're trying to right that in Afghanistan, but they started off on the same fit as Iraq and the damage done is difficult to mitigate. Eventually, I think whatever they set up the will fall and another group will take over, though I'm not sure it'll be Taliban. There are others.

"The invasion was illegal and unjust. It was never about the mythical weapons of mass destruction. Billions of pounds spent in the UK, trillions of dollars spent in the USA. Thousands of dead military, tens of thousands of dead Iraqis. And the net result? A country in a worse state than when it was invaded. " this.. plus a lot of people got and still are getting very rich.. vile business

"Saddam ruled with a rod of iron and kept these factions down, now he and his regime has gone control is up for grabs. Well done Blair & Bush you meddling fooking tossers Let them sort it out between themselves or get Iain Duncan Smith to crush the revolution like he has our welfare system." I agree, we could send the rest of the government out there- Dads Army - The Sequel.

No, the Western world should leave them to it...not worth the life of one more soldier. There will never be peace and stability unfortunately

"We should never have gone back in but once we did we needed to do it properly, the same can be said about Afghanistan but we didnt and Afghanistan will end up the same way. We (As a part of UN peacekeeping forces) still have a presence in many places where there is an ethnic/religious divide Kosovo and Cyprus to name but a few. " Proving that troubles like these are not sorted out in ten years but decades.
