"Ok, soooooo...... In a weird synthesis of a thread I read this morning and one I posted several days ago, I'm beginning to wonder about the can Vs should mindset. There are many things in life that we all know that we 'can't do, and many of us do just because we 'can'. My question is, how many of us stop and question whether we 'should'do something? This can range from posting on social media, actions in our daily lives, posting a response in a thread, or even becoming offended at the actions of others. And to further the question.... Where do my fellow forumites feel that intent weighs into the debate? How much does intent hold sway outside of a court of law to mitigate the actions of ourselves and others? " I kinda do what I want

" Yes, I do all the time try to only do what I should. And yes, in matters of morality and 'truth' in the broader sense, intent is very important, I always try to discern it in others. Horses will teach you that - they read intent very clearly, I think a lot of animals do.

"After puzzling about what a tin of V was I finally got it that you mean Can verses Should On forums there is many a post that falls into neither category, it's why there is a delete option for those who think about what they posted quickly enough! Many people forget that the Internet is public and permanent, which is weird as they seem to have more control over their lips than their fingers. some posts on here I could never imagine the poster actually saying out loud in a public space. I hate it when people know where I was because I got tagged in someone's photo on facetube. My location is not secret as such, but it should be private." Sorry, I'm American so I use vs to abbreviate versus. I still forget the British use 'v' instead.

"I was given a real dilemma on Monday night. It was something that I could do, but which would possibly have a not wholly positive outcome. On the good side, it could have lead to a life changing event, on the downside, perhaps to me being outed to everyone and losing my job. All possibly. " This, then, might highlight a flip side of the argument... I. E. In the 'I can but should I' question.... Where do you fall in a situation where you risk either incredible gain or losing all. Is it still a 'I can but should I' situation or does it morph into something else at that point?
