I also hope this signals an end to an era of being too politically correct and of being so afraid of being branded with the ’R' word, that people let practices that are obviously wrong continue unabated.

We think it's just the tip of the ice burg. Labour were warned in 2008, Tory's 2 years later. In 2007, Tahir Allam (governor of a Birmingham school) wrote a paper for Ealing council that was said to have been designed to drive a wedge between Muslim pupils & their non-Muslim class mates. Now we find girls are segregated to the back of classrooms, Christian RE lessons are dropped etc. Makes you wonder how many schools have gone down this path in the last 7yrs.

Tip of iceberg in my view fact ofsted are unable to do no notice checks without schools classed as inadequate is disgraceful.

A major concern should also be as more and more schools become free schools and lack of control over what is taught i believe this will be more common.

I am not saying this is just down to being free schools far from it but education system has become to a degree privatised through back door.

Surely no one is shocked to hear about this and segreagation of sexes etc its how muslims believe it should be however its a small minority and yet again raises the extermist views that some have which should be banished and those involved barred from teaching again.

Furthermore ofted as poor as sometimes it appears do not have the support from government they should have and need more powers and it should be clearly set out that they can spot check any school anytime.

I don't think its an over-reaction at all. If even 1 teacher is found to be teaching extremism or trying to brainwash kids with extremist views then that teacher should be sacked. If it is happening more widespread in certain schools then those schools should be closed down or cracked down on by the authorities. In these cases it is Muslim extremism and it should not be tolerated. If it happened with any other faith then of course the same rules should apply, but it always seems to be Muslim extremists in the news these days.

As for the schools, religions have always tried to indoctrinate people - vigilance is needed, but there will always be those who cry "racist" when Islam is called into question.

Probably tip of iceberg....previous inspections found good (and even outstanding) schools...but those inspections under normal OFSTED rules gave schools several days notice...so they can cover up inadequate or wrong practice. I used to work in a school where that happened.

These inspections have been no notice and clearly with eyes open....so found more of what was really going on.

Some of these schools were much more ethnically mixed up until a few years ago...now becoming almost entirely Muslim and yet supposed to be non- denominational state schools.

This episode will continue.....watch this space!

Surely no one is suprised about segregation as it forms part of the muslim culture.

As others say its bad for all especially those segregated not suprisingly i have not heard a parent of anyone saying segregstion is bad therefore must assume they agree with it.

I just hope this starts a sea change of how situations like this can gather momentmum without checks made.

Also hope there is a groen up national debate resulting in banning anyone involved from teaching full stop.

No doubt the accusations of racism will rear its ugly head and can be used to deflect from the actual issues involved.

Its being reported that only Islam was being taught in these schools. They only put Christian events on when they knew inspectors were due to call round. Surely state government funded schools should teach all religions and all faiths, why were they not teaching the kids about Christianity, Hinduism, Sikh, buddism, etc. Surely for the kids to have a fair and balanced education in RE they should learn about all religions?

Also kids should not be segregated by sex (boys at the front of the class and girls at the back of the class), as was happening in these schools. I'm a working taxpayer and i object to my taxes being used to teach kids in this way. If its a government funded state school then the school should follow the government guidelines and rules on how to teach with equality for all and a fair and balanced education when it comes to RE.

I went to an all girls faith school. I was taught mainly by women. I was not taught very much about other religions or faiths.

I dont want to make other people live like me, think like me or to blow them up because they are wrong and I am right.

Zealots and religious fundamentalists exist in all walks of life.

If schools start to exclude girls and deny them an education that IS something to fight against.

Trouble is the fact there hard line Muslims. Now I'm not going in to details but once upon a time I shared a room at her majesty's hotel with a Muslim and the things they preach really turned my stomach to the point I asked for him to be moved out they preach vile and hatred things any one that is a none beliver will be beheaded and it's taught to kids they hate western people and non Muslim. Now I'm not saying there all like that it's just the extremists but it says in the Korean that all non believers to be beheaded. Religion is the root to all evil people belive in stupid things I could go on about this all day but you have to witness the vile tongue and acts of this religious faith. Good and bad amongst us all

Here's thought. Remove religion from schools altogether.

Then if they want to learn about religion, this is extra curricular outside of the school system and is the responsibility of the parents to manage.

Because I'm having difficulty justifying how religion benefits the curriculum in schools; where it's made science, maths, english, art, poetry or even history better. In fact its mostly brought persecution, revisionist doctrine and sought to destroy many of those very subjects.

it was reported in the guardian that the letter was fraudulent, that there was no evidence found of radicalisation. The powers that be then acted on this for purposes unbeknown to me.

I've only just briefly caught the end on BBC news where they were asking kids at one of the schools what they thought, his words were: 'it felt like an Islamic school, it's not supposed to be an Islamic school, it's supposed to be an Academy.'

Maybe there was cause for reform - but it's quite well reported that there was no evidence of extremism, yet now the govt is acting like it's just uncovered a terror threat, when simple reform would probably have done just as well?

I think you are refering to all boy schools and separate all girls schools. That is a different matter entirely to what is being reported in the news that has happened in these schools in Birmingham. They have girls and boys in the same class room, but make boys sit at the front of the class and girls are made to sit at the back. Its just wrong to do this as it is sending a subconcious message to those girls that boys (men) are superior, and that the boys education is more important than girls education. Can you honestly say you agree with this?

Its a common theme amongst muslim extremists, we've seen it in pakistan and Afghanistan, where girls are stopped (or attempted to stop) from going to school, the school girl who was shot in the head at close range by Al-Qaida because she wanted to go to school and campaigned for the education of girls, she was targeted by Al-Qaida and the Taliban for it. Now in Africa all those school girls abducted by muslim extremists who believe girls should not be educated, then the schools were destroyed, burned to the ground.

Not sure which school you went to but the school i attended we were taught about all religions, Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, Sikh, and Hinduism in RE classes.

You not seen the news report about the well known (to the police) muslim extremist who was invited to a school in birmingham to give an extended assembly lecture/talk to school kids then?

My guess is he was not there to talk about equality and peace to other non muslims.

I dont know how Islamic faith schools operate, but if it states the two sexes must not mix then surely it is simply going by the faith.

There seems to be a lot of reactionary views when no evidence has been found! Again - the original letter was a hoax! YET - it was acted on. WHY?!

(It would be a different matter if radicalisation was documented, but it hasn't as far as I know)

We dont even know what education was received on the back of that lecture. It could have been broken down?? who knows, but yes I agree, that shouldnt have happened

I love how the hatred and extreme views come out of people who call themselves the voice of sense and point fingers at others.

First segregation, so it's those bloody Muslims that do vile things like that. I guess the long history of prestigious British institutions have no such barbaric practices. So I guess the college that has produced 19 British prime minister is mixed... Oh wait it isn't. So maybe it's vile when Muslims do it, but privileged when someone else does it.

So all those beheadings the Muslims are going around doing in the world... 24.2% of the world's population, so maybe it's not every Muslim, or even a minority.. Its a few idiots (that end up in jail, then ex prisoners post their views here). I guess the lynchings by Christians of homosexuals in Africa, the extremism of Christians in the deep south, slavery in the USA, the colonisation of Africa (the CAR wasn't always violent, the Belgian Christains taught them that), the paedophile scandal of the Catholic Church etc etc are all just fictional.

Finally, I guess religion is the source of all problems. I guess the market forces of capitalism have nothing to do with it. So what religion were we fighting the two world wars for? Stalin, po, Hitler and Genghis Khan were responsible for over 30 million people, were they Muslims.

Have of the hearsay mentioned here was never in the report. The problem is some minority of people work hard to push their agenda through and are happy to force their views upon pupils and hardworking teachers. I've also seen teachers who lack any empathy or respect for others and have the same ignorant views as some on here.

Those who _xpress these extreme views lack any comprehensive knowledge of the facts. British tradition? What exactly is that? Church of England? So orthodox/Catholic Christains are also wrong? Most of these racists don't even realise what they consider as undisputed facts are not even crystal clear. Even things like Christmas days vary across the world but I guess unless you follow our way your wrong.

My point is not a dig at any other faith, but to highlight there are problems in every single one but we pick what we want to believe. Even today, the highest number of terrorists in action are in South America (who are not muslims) but they don't serve any political purpose here so are not reported. But I guess people with extreme views lack the vision to see the facts.

I look forward to a government that brings all schools back into public ownership and abolishes all faith schools. We need an integrated society and separation has no place here. End the fairy tale teaching of religion except as a way to learn about each other and the world. Keep religious activity for private life away from education. And all schools should be immediately open to all inspection. I have not studied the reports in depth, but we must ensure educational standards are raised everywhere and that all people are equal, including genders, races and sexualities. Would agree with all except your last sentence as what is UK standards. Someone already pointed out that it was CoE. The fact that we need to teach religion as a way of differentiating what others believe and why, as well as a high standards in their basic education to prepare them for life. What religion you or your children practice is for home. The standards of education continue to drop (fortunately but as much as the USA) and we need to raise the bar. These problems are a product of our failing education system. The only problem is when a CoE school fails it's not deemed a systematic conspiracy, but when another faith does it, then it is. Read the report, the name given was one to label the phenomena. There's nothing to show that all events were planned or coordinated, but people here seem to think so.

Why in the 21st century do people of any religion still believe in mythical supreme beings called gods. A mythical being did not click his fingers & bring us into being. Life evolved over millions of years, this is not fiction, it's scientific FACT with real proper evidence to prove it beyond a shadow of doubt. Religions were invented by PRIMATIVE man 1000's of years ago to try to explain mans existence because they didn't know any better. Thing is now though, we DO know better & we are no longer primative. Back then they thought the planet was clicked into existence by a mythical being. They had absolutely no idea the planet was already millions & millions of years old & life had thrived for millions of years before bi-peds. Human beings weren't even the 1st species. Before us were Neanderthals, homo-erectus, homo-sapiens & a couple of others I can't remember off the top of my head. Gods are no more real than Santa Claus, the tooth fairy or Freddy Kruger. Religion will be the death of us all & only a reality check will save us in this nuclear age. Let's just hope none of them get hold of some plutonium or uranium to make "dirty" bombs.

its not the fact that its a muslim school, there are many single faith school, its the way the children are being fought, girls being put at the back of class rooms, or even different class rooms, certain subject being taken away from girls etc, surely that's against the law, and no matter what faith a school is they should still have to abide by the laws of the country they are in, equal opportunity is law in this country

It's just scare mongering. That's all it is nowadays. Just target a few schools, make a big hooha about it and forget about the fact that kids are actually excelling in their studies.

Forget about religion and so forth. Too many people getting bogged down on that topic. What about English, maths and science? That's where the focus has to be - nowadays kids don't even know how to spell their name, read or write, do sums and don't know their science.

That's worrying for me.

We can talk about extremism til the cows come home but it's not going to make a difference. The tables can always be turned on each religion.

Let's not forget about the Catholic Church and the child abuse in their schools. The Jewish faith who also have strict segregation between men and women. The Hindu faith where girls are buried alive. The Buddhists committing massacres in Burma and Myanmar. The conflict in Central African Republic. And many more...

...all of this comes down to education too you know. I was taught that everyone is equal. No male is superior over no woman. No black over no white. No asian over another.

Sometimes the media like to shift the focus and it does more harm than good. There's more to this Trojan Horse story than that which meets the eye.

And let's not start with the upper class posh schools. There's downfalls in every institute.

And who suffers the most out of all this. The teachers and the students.

i went to a CofE school in Halifax all it did was turn me in an aithiest we had a "service" evry week n a religious assembly daily load of bollox realy the RE lessons wernt just CofE christian but we were told about the main others aswel discounting shit like scientology n creationism totaly nut jobs

I agree and i also wish religion was not taught in schools. I also wish i could win the lottery but the odds of that happening are very slim. As long as religion is being taught in RE classes in schools then the authorities have a duty to stamp out any kind of extremist teaching. If the actions they are taking now crackdown on extremist teaching then i'm all for it, be it Muslim, Christian or any other faith.

RE is not the problem - RE should be taught in all schools to help children understand the world they live in.

This is not the same as being a faith based school or having a religious bias. Unfortunately some of the very best schools are those with a string religious ethos, so the chances of scrapping it are bugger all.

I attended a non faith Grammar school and a speaker was invited to talk to us about his belief that God didn't exist, after he had spoken a Christian teacher stood up and told us he was evil, we shouldn't listen to him and that he woudl go to hell.....frightened me to death at the time I was only 11....but she was trying to force Christianity on us all.

ours was total indoctrination and any questioning of 'the faith' was ignored and then corrected usually with the cane or a trip to see the monsigneur who also would summon ones parents in..

caused a total shit storm at age 11 when I said I didn't believe in the virgin birth..

Integration and understanding of different faiths and cultures should be encouraged, rather than single faith schools. My son moved from a Catholic school to a multi faith school and has no doubt a better understanding of Islam, Hindu, Sikh, Christian and Jewish kids as a result.

I have no problem if people want to follow religion (it isn't really my thing as most of it is just garbage) as long as it is tolerant of other people's decisions and cultures.

I've read that.. Telegraph I believe. I also read that the Home Office screened him and allowed him into the country and the assembly in question was a motivational talk just before the exams.

Hopefully more on this will come out.

Below is a letter from the Chair of Governors, Farasat Latif, for the Olive Tree Primary School, where Ofsted Inspectors were forced to leave due them causing possible pyschological harm to a child. Once again, the parents of the child are urged to take legal action against such behaviour.

Dear Sir Michael Wilshaw

I am writing further to the OFSTED inspection dated 13-15 May 2014, and the subsequent report dated 4th June 2014.

It was stated in the report’s summary of findings that: Some books in the children’s library promote fundamentalist views which do not support the pupils’ development for life in modern Britain. Some of the views promoted by these books, for example about stoning and lashing as appropriate punishments, have no place in British society.

There are several books in our staff library, not in our children’s library, that do indeed mention stoning and lashing. These books, which are inaccessible to children, provide information about the application of law in a theocracy, not in the UK. These books do not promote or condone its application as lawful in a UK context. We do not teach or promote this view in our school, and the inspectors did not find any evidence to the contrary.

In light of the above, I am seeking guidance whether the following books should be removed from our staff library. The books in question are:

1) Child Education in Islam. This book contains one reference regarding stoning, and one reference regarding lashing.

2) The Holy Quran. This contains two references regarding lashing for slander and for fornication, and two references regarding amputation for theft and for highway robbery,

3) The Holy Bible. This contains eighteen references regarding stoning for a number of different crimes including adultery, sodomy, witchcraft and blasphemy amongst others. Please refer to the Catholic Encyclopaedia for a full list of punishments.

I am of the view that the above named books should not be removed from our staff library, as the punishments mentioned within them should not be taken in the context of UK law. However I would welcome further clarification on this point. I look forward to hearing from you.
