or 'I'm fine'

Why are they not just accepted as answers when asked the question 'How are you?'

Anyone else get the whole 'Are you sure? Wanna talk abut it?' kinda response?

Sometimes im just content, no fireworks going off, not bouncing from the ceilig, but im not sad or down either.. im just fine or ok

It's a perfectly good response , makes it hard when trying to get a conversation going sometimes though

So ask more interesting questions than 'how are you?'

It's a nothing question. I'm not actually going to answer it honestly because they don't actually want to know how I am so that only leaves saying I'm fine thanks.

Skip that bit and find something they can actually respond to to ask. You need to do that after the standard 'fine thanks' reply anyway!

Personally in my first message I write why I decided to message them - what appealed and how I saw their profile and say I'm wondering if they'd be interested in a meet.

That way it's easy to make it a personal message for each individual, I don't need to write half a book and I find out early on if they might be interested without a load of meaningless small talk. It also makes it easier for them to say no thanks, I think.

Just my view though.

You have to forestall them with a question, beware "I'm fine, how are you" can lead to a long answer,

"I'm fine, did you see that documentary on Mongolian sheep wrestling" works well, usually gets a simple no as an answer
