Just got my old Merc out of storage after 6yrs. Full service, new brakes, new radiator etc, new MOT and I was ready to go.

I was advised not to venture too far until I'd done a couple of hundred miles of local driving.

Did I listen? Did I fuck.

Set off for Wolves on Friday night and came to a halt at Juntion 12 of M5. My alternator stopped working.

Anyway, got a lift to Wolves on the back of an RAC wagon. Bought and fitted a new alternator on Saturday morning and drove home today without any bother.

If only I'd listened to my mate I wouldn't have been standing on the hard shoulder for an hour.

you didnt know it was good advice until you went ahead - it may have been bad advice and all turned out fine
