Have you ever eaten...?

Jump to newest

By (user no longer on site) OP

As someone of dual heritage I have eaten some interesting things I might not have eaten even if I was just visiting a country for a holiday. I've had snails, rabbit and horse meat (not disguised as a beef burger) but not yet sampled frogs legs.

Have you ever eaten frogs legs?

What other weird and wonderful foods have you eaten?

Frogs legs are pretty nice if I remember rightly....remember enjoying them anyhow.

Love snails....never tried horse yet though.

Goat is a fave of mine....my old man does a lot of shooting and is quite old school Cypriot and therefore is pretty waste not want not with his kills so it wasn't unusual to open the oven and find a deers head all skinned and roasting in there....

Snails were such a disappointment to me. Complete nightmare getting them out of the shells then just like chewing bits of old tyre.

...still to try oysters. So want to but a bit scared....

I don't think you're supposed to chew snails! I can't remember; it's been a long time since I had them. Oysters are alright. Bit boring tbh! And I don't like lemon, which one must add to kill the oyster before drinking it down.

Never had lemon on an oyster. Just plain or with vinegar.

I was eating chicken hearts recently...

cooked with garlic then a squeeze of lemon & olive oil, some fresh parsley.

Quite tasty actually but not pretty. Texture like octopus.

I'll eat anything once. It's not usually a flavourI ddon't like, but the texture. I love the flavour of jelly, but can't bear the slimyness of it, so can't eat it.

My most memorable food stuff was sheep brains in Marakeech. Not really a lot of flavour, but the texture was icky.

I remember going on a trip to the desert in Egypt and being fed by the locals, 1 woman shoving these samosa style things down her neck, saying how lovely they were, as soneone passed she stopped them to ask what meat they were. When she was answered with wood pigeon she promptly spat out the one she was munching on, declaring them disgusting.

Quite similar to ostrich or any other high protein and low fat red meat. Like steak but without the fat. Maybe just a touch of bitterness due to the blood when done rare.

Venison has been available at supermarkets for many years. But it is much better when well hung. Preferably with maggots...
