It's a tricky one. But if somebody described themselves as rugby player build I'd picture somebody between 5"11&6"2 and pretty stocky.

I think they usually mean stocky.

I could answer more fully but it would be a generalisation based on a few profiles and unfair to many others.

It means they are built like Courtney Laws.

Or Geoff Capes depending on who you ask

Ooooh, love a big sturdy rugby player type! I guess to most it means stocky and muscular but some players are obviously a lot smaller.

Many men (in my experience) tick athletic with the rider that they have a rugby player build. What they actually mean is that they once played a bit and despite carrying some extra weight they still think they could play.

Unfortunately women see it as meaning that they look like Ben Cohen and are frequently disappointed.

Mrs P just takes it as scruffy and unkempt and a little on the fat side.

She went to a school that excelled in rugby and a few of her schoolmates have played for England so she is not being unkind, just her view.

It's like saying athletic. Athletic as in Mo Farah or Rafa Nadal ?

This is pretty much what I meant when I said I could elaborate.

Some men who say they have a rugby player build are hot. Others... well, it's an excuse to consider themselves athletic even though they've got more of a beer barrel than a 6-pack.

Yes, if a man describes himself as such I tend to suspect he is overly thickset or overweight!!

When I called one of my meets 'rugby fit' I meant a 6'2" player with broad shoulders, weighing 15 stone without an ounce of fat on him!

I picture the more recent rugby players to the older style. Very muscular and toned and just a few with significant body fat. But I think it has become shag and dating site terminology for large and likely somewhat increased body eat levels to average fit guy build. Some gorgeous active rugby players out there, love them.

Don't forget though, people's perception of rugby players usually comes from what they see on tv or in media. Of course those players are wearing shoulder pads etc which kinda skews it because actually, they are not as big as they look on the field.

Went to rugby and cricket games last year and was surprised at how fit (as in athletic) they all were - seriously fit!

As a description on here though I think it refers to a more traditional rugby build - like Shrek

What's the female equivalent of rugby player physique?

Reply privatelyReply in forumReply +quote

By *ost SockMan

West Wales and Cardiff

Jamie Roberts (Welsh international) walked past me yesterday. Massive bloke and he's a back! The players have got ridiculously big these days.

It's true that rugby has always been seen as a game for all sizes. However, I've always taken "rugby player physique" to mean pretty big and muscular.

I guess flankers would be the "classic" shape - guys like Robshaw, Warburton, Ryan Jones, Tom Wood. Not the absolute biggest, but solid as!

What sort of rugby, union or league?

If union, then I would guess anything from man mountain of props to wiry fast little scrum halves to lean winger sprinting machines.

If its League, then its big hard bent and battered bulls with false teeth and collie-flower ears!

To me, when I read a woman is looking for a rugby player physique, it means they want a man who is big and burly with an obvious look of strength to them, not necessarily the bodybuilder type with rippling muscles, just a guy who looks strong and beefy - its a good, masculine look.

I am an ex-county player and although I havent been able to play for 15 yrs (knee injuries mean I cant run) I am only a stone over my playing weight back then.

Ok some has come off my legs and gone on my stomach as fat but I am (c)hunky. At 6'4" I carry 18.5 stone quite well.

But when I had a 4 pack and 17.5 stone at my peak I was hunky. I had the same physique but with higher conditioning levels. I am hoping to get those back but its hard when I like food, wine and sex more than the gym
