Oh have to agree with that but how about a song to your best mate's son when you see him being psychologically abused by said mate's new partner? McCartney's Hey Jude is a love song above all others as it was to a kid he loved even though not his own.

.

It makes me cry as it is very apt for my late partner who died in Nov 08 of a boating accident.

"seasons in the sun, unknown, but i dare anyone to listen and not have their hearts tugged

Terry Jacks, i played that song so much in my teenage years its a wonder i didnt wear it out"

Terry Jack's other one was "If You Go Away"

"Without You" by Harry Nillson

written by Pete Ham and Tom Evans of

Badfinger, both of whom committed suicide, not directly due to the song but otherwise tragic

i undrestand Mariah Carey has done a version , which is probably even more tragic

Lately by Stevie Wonder. No matter how happy I am just the opening bars put me on a downer.

Dance with my father by Luther Vandross. My dad died last year, we were estranged and I haven't really grieved for him. Was on the bus a few weeks back driving through an area my dad lived when it came on my iPod...just about held it together.

Evergreen by Barbara Striesand, first record I ever bought for the words instead of the beat!

Back to Black by Amy Winehouse, I'm not a fan, but can't deny: haunting.

Has to be Tony Bennet "The Good life" ...

My late fathers favourite song, he was away in London working on bomb damage after the war, this record was released he asked my mum (they were just courting at the time)to get the record for him. My sis and I grew up with my father singing this, knowing every word and even becoming backing singers at family get togethers when my Dad refused to hand over the mic when we had Kareoke (shoo wop ee doo wop ee doo wop ee doo wop ee do). It was played at his funeral...A few years later the hairs on the back of both mine and Bobs neck stood up when we were sitting in the waiting area in Hospital to see the consultant after my operation for breast cancer for results and what should be played on the TV .....that song. We knew right then we were going to be ok x
