one of the lads here is petrified of them but he towers over everyone in hight and is built like a brick shit house, one time he was answering the call of nature and one of the other lads threw a spider over the door into the trap, it sounded like small girl screaming to a point of almost breaking the class

Luv 'em - would sooner pick one up and put it outside than kill it

Same goes for bees, I always make an effort to get them out instead of killing them, Just on Sunday, a whopping great bumble bee dropped into my garden pond, so I fished him out and let him crawl around on my hand untill he dried out and flew away

Absolutely,it really perks them up,gives them a buzz,so to speak.

As for spiders though, can't understand the phobia, what do sufferers think the spiders going to do to them?

Its like something the size of the Empire State building being scared of us.

Now if a gorilla or tiger came wandering into the lounge that's a different matter. R

I know a geezer who the RSPCA call whenever they have exotic pets that need looking after. One night he got a call, that they needed him to go to a house to pick up a spider, the owner couldn't look after it any more (due to him being arrested). He got there to find the house was some kind of drug den squat, the RSPCA had taken away some dogs, then had noticed this spider's case had been knocked over in the mayhem of the preceeding police raid. They had simply shat themselves and thrown a plastic tub over it, then phoned for the cavalry. So, this chap gingerly lifts off the tub and sees the biggest spider he's EVER seen, of a type he's unfamiliar with, one which is apparently very rare, or at least an enthusiast's spider (unlike your common red-kneed tarantula). He says it would have only just fitted in a biscuit tin.

Anyway, he tips the tub up, holds it in front of the beast and waits for it to climb inside. It sits there. After a while he decides to give it some encouragement and lightly touches its back end with the lid of the tub. The spider then zooms forward, skirts the tub, straight up his arm and inside the neck of his shirt.......

Now if it had been me, you would be reading this tale in a coroner's report, I cannot imagine such a horror, I'm sure heart failure would be the outcome. I can't remember much of the rest of the story, my legs had buckled by then and things were going wavy, but he was, to say the very least, astounded at how fast this spider had zipped up his arm, too fast for him to stop it disappearing into the nice warm dark inside his shirt. And this is from a man who handles them regularly, knows what to expect.

Apparently, a typical tarantula would simply move forward a couple of steps if you nudge it, not sprint away. They still haven't been able to ascertain where these scrotes in the squat had obtained this spider.

I have no idea how he got the thing out of his shirt (apart from ve-ry carefully), I had heard enough. A cautionary tale, I think you'll agree.

I always introduce spiders to the sole of Mr Shoe, no exceptions, it's them or me.

I used to be terrified of them until I met Mr R. He told me off for asking him to kill a spider and instead picked it up and put it outside and he is right, they are probably more scared of us.so now I am not so bad.

( although the one that ran out from under the washing machine was a bit scary the other day, he was that big the washing machine moved when he ran back under it ! )

We’ve got tarantulas but only two now, did have 13 at one time and scorpions too. Along with snakes, lizards, and two parrots we would take them to local schools so the children could have some ‘hands-on one-to-one’ experience with them. It also gave us a chance to convert a few of them who had irrational fear of such animals and dispel quite a few myths.

Funny story… little bit of basics about snakes first. They eat very little, 75% less than us warm blooded animals. And so they don’t eat often, once a month or so, equally they only defecate at the same rate once a month.

So we were at a commercial nursery with the older kids (4, 5, 6 years) doing our mobile zoo thing and I’m showing a 10 foot reticulated python… “Does anyone want to have a hold of this snake?” Quite a few of the boys stepped up and I loaded this snake onto this young lad. Worth mentioning at this point he had shorts on. As you might imagine 10 foot of snake on a 6-year-old is a lot of snake and its tail end is dragging the floor. Snakes like to feel secure so about 5 foot of it coiled itself around the boys leg…. THEN it shit!!! And most of it went into this lads sock!!! Fortunately he thought it was brilliant, couldn’t stop laughing and of course everyone else had a bit of a giggle too.

Well there is one youngster with an after dinner story that no one will believe LOL.

Nice one for that lad. I am glad he wasn't disgusted.

About the spiders . . .

I don't mind them. We live in the country and have a resident pair in the lounge and a pair in the kitchen.

Last year the weather got too much for the relatives and they all moved in with Fred and Sally in the lounge and I wasn't very impressed. They always leave a thread of silk when they walk around the top of the walls and these threads were taking over the place after the other 7 moved in . . . !

The way to relocate spiders, if you don't want to get up close and personal, is to empty a match box - the extralong matches box in our case - and open it halfway, place the box over the spider and gently close the box, then you can put it outside and push the box open and the spider will crawl out and run away when it is ready.

We are now back to our usual compliment of 2 pairs, lol.

Well if any one wants a serious tip about spiders…

Tarantulas are older than the dinosaurs, their venom is about the same as a bee. The fangs can only swing through 90 degrees and to make a kill they have to pounce on top of the victim.

Modern spiders are more articulate, the fangs can swing through 180 degrees, meaning they can stick them out to the front. If you cup your hand over a spider it detects the shadow of your hand and assumes it’s a bird or something coming in to eat it. And so it goes into defence mode… fangs front and charge! This is why people can get stung when trying to catch them with a cupped hand over the top. Just put your hand in front and give it a little poke from behind and it’ll be quite happy to step onto you.

There might be something to be said for people tending to say “Get a GLASS and catch that spider”. I’ve not experimented to try and prove it but perhaps a ‘glass’ is better, as the spider would be less able to detect it.

Stu Scotland…. They cannot actually see you, even though they have 8 to 10 eyes. They don’t have picture vision like us, its just a ‘detect movement by changes in light levels’ system.

Some Tarantulas are lightening fast and some can jump. The Pink Toe jumps for a living. It will climb to a suitable vantage point and wait for a moth to come into range and then jump on it in mid air!

Ok I’ll shut up now

If you want to live and thrive, let a spider run alive!

Was a huge one ran past me while I was having phone sex earlier! Actually, poor little sod (the spider not the phone sex partner!)ran cos he was a lot more scared than me, I was making quite a lot of noise!
