"I enjoyed the Sharpe books, but felt the series suffered a bit from too small a budget. Re-enacting a big battle with 12 extras doesn't really work. On a side note, it is nice to see Sean Bean not die. " Sharpe was the making of Sean Bean for me

"If you enjoyed the Sharpe series, the books are even better! Check out Bernard Cornwell and he does a number of historical character based series, which are brilliant. Ps...i'm not his agent " His books are good and I enjoy them, but the characters are a bit interchangeable, you could lift most of them, change their outfit and fit them into one of his other series.

"You have a fair point, however, they follow a similar theme, Britain ( unless you include the Starbuck books ), where they are based upon cleverly researched historical situations. The fact that we enjoyed more than our fair share of victorious events through the ages probably lend themselves to their success. The appeal of writing as a French soldier in similar times, constantly losing and his misery is hardly best selling material! " I thought the Starbucks books were his weakest
