"As a reasonably articulate and educated individual I usually make my point and explain it. Inevitably the next post takes the initial point , ignores the explanation and then asks , about the original statement, "why?" It often reminds me of when my son was young and I would explain that it is dangerous to cross the road without looking because he could be run over. "Why daddy?" I would offer an additional explanation to him in _iew of his age. I don't bother with adults. Anyone else exasperated with the why question? Please don't resort to the obvious reply." Inevitably? No I'm not exasperated with it But I don't mind clarifying an opinion because I recognise that I may not have expressed it clearly in the first place.

Honestly, anyone who asks a question wanting to learn should be rewarded with the answer, ideally in a manner that they will understand. However as soon as the person demonstrates that they are not listening or trying to understand, then I rapidly turn to why bother....

You're not that educated or articulate , you just think you are. I would suggest you take a leaf out of your sons book and start asking questions so you can educate yourself instead of presuming that you know it all.

I couldn't get exasperated with a word but it's one of those questions that I find very important. I have to use the 'Why?' question in my work on a daily basis and the answers are what structures a particular result. 'Why' can often be a challenging question to answer but can often help drive our personal lives.
