A bit random for this site but I wondered if any one can explain the benefit of DSD vs FLAC given that FLAC is lossless anyway...

Personally I always use FLAC but don't for a second think it's truly lossless no digital format is, there will always be some degree of compression where the top and bottom of the waveform is trimmed and certain dynamics are lost.

If I could afford it, I'd still record all my music on 2" tape, but the stuff is getting scarce and very expensive now.

I'm not an expert on digital but as far as I'm aware dsd is high resolution whereas flac is pretty much normal CD quality at best.

With dsd though you will need the shortage equipment to play it as not everything well play a high res stream.

If you want quality sound buy a turntable and some vinyl!

This....

There is no better sound than an old analogue recording. Everything is captured. Room dynamics, reflected sounds, even buzzes from the amps.

Digital recordings lose all that.

CD quality is 18 bit but there are sites where you can download in 24 bit with higher sample rates. 24 bit is the quality that recording studios use.

Of course you need to have suitable equipment to play these files.
