The only time I've felt lonely in the past few years was the first coupla weeks after my hip replacement and when I had bad sciatica attacks...being unable or really struggling to do basic things like feed myself or get a brew are about the only times I miss having someone around - I also hate that feeling as I detest being dependant on others so it's a bit of a double edged sword - selfishly wanting someone around, but hating having to ask for help

It doesn't happen very often but it's usually when I've done something nice but there's no one to talk it over with afterwards.

But when you go from being single to being in a relationship, you simply exchange one set of problems for a different set. At the moment being single is the best option for me.
