Can anyone pleeeeeease explain what the hell went on in the last episode of Ashes to Ashes?

Watched it and am bloody confused!

Gene hunt died and recruited spirits or thats the way it came across. Will have to watch again when i am totally sober to get the full jist as it was pretty confusing.

basically i think that Gene and all the other coppers were actually dead , gene was like a go between for the wandering souls who had lost their way .

the pub they used to drink in was the way in to heaven , so gene was kinda helping sam tyler and the other girl to cross over ,

and at the end when you heard someone yell " wheres my iphone and office " it was another spirt and they had jumped to 2000 ish

Basicly the whole series the whole team bar gene were stuck in 'limbo' they all had to put things right to cross over to heaven and gene was the light and the other cop was the dark. they had to work out for themselves what was going on a decided which way they were going. it was a metaphor

also the dude with the glasses who was from internal affairs was a playing a satan type character who was going to take them in the elevator down to 'hell'
