Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

Honey bees or bumble bees?

If bumble bees leave them. If honey bees get in touch with your local beekeepers as someone will take them off your hands.

Brighton - even Hove!

The council might remove them for you but I don't think you are allowed to kill them.

Bumble bees are black, round, and buzz very deeply. Honey bees are small, yellow striped, and buzz lightly. Make sure they aren't wasps though, as they are more likely to be nesting at the mo. And you really don't want them around.

Bumbles are fat and fluffy, even the workers, and they don't swarm. Honey bees are more of a problem I would get them moved.

Call the council. Sounds like you have a swarm.

Just check that they're not those Africanised killer bees.... Other than that, you'll find that they're generally harmless. If they bother you, I'm sure that there are people who can move them, but generally I think that they'll move themselves in the winter anyway.

Got bees in the soffits. Just leaving them as they cause no harm really.

Wasps would get the full treatment though

If they nest in your house the council will move them. Bumble bees are protected so don't kill them. You'll be responsible for the demise of the planet

Are they quite a small bee?

If so its likely they are ones called "masonry bees".

They are much smaller than the normal honey bee.

No, you can't trap them inside and kill them, bees are too valuable!!! Besides, if they are honey bees and have made honey you need to remove their hive professionally otherwise they will just keep coming back, the smell will draw bees.

Don't call the council if they are honey bees x

There is a website which lists bee keepers in your area and advice on recognising honey bees , I was amazed how many bee keepers there were to me .They are most helpful and will come and collect a swarm x

Phone a local beekeeper, I'm sure someone would be happy to advise or pop round for a look. A dozen sounds more like bumbles. If they were swarming honey bees you'd know about it - there would be thousands and quite aggressive!

A seaside town near you!

I have a honeysuckle in my garden and the little blighters trounce it every year ..I never see the flowers! Apparently it is a good thing to let them do that so being a good citizen I leave them 'bee' hehe

It does piss me off never seeing the honeysuckle flower tho!

King's Crustacean

If they are bees leave them alone. They are endangered.

If they are wasps leave them alone - they die at the end of the summer in any case.

Have your door open ..... unless you are a florists.

Your local police may have the contact number for a local bee keeper.

Ok, bumble bees are solitary for the most part and never swarm...

Mason bees and the like are also solo by nature...

Wasps would be an issue and should be delt with by a professional body...

Hornets are not aggressive, in fact they are less an issue than wasps as long as you are not interrupting their flight path to and from the nest, if they head bump you then you are in the way

Now honey bees are swarming at the moment and rogue queens will take flight from a hive taking half the hive with them, which I suspect is what you have.

Look up your local bee keeping association and ask them if someone who is experienced can come and remove the swarm, they may place a bait hive near the swarm to give them the chance to recollonate.

Do not try to to touch them yourself as a swarm can be quite aggressive.

Good luck

Just one of those strange things they have to know - vet/abbotior on call for casualty horses/cows/donkeys is a favourite one in the New Forset.
