a few things I have taken from this so far...

BNP vote has collapse.... ukip look like they have gained the most from this..

Lib Dem vote has collapse.. with them behind the greens..... if the libs dems can't win in the south wales... they will get slaughtered everywhere..

be interesting to see if UKIP do win a seat in scotland

actually the most interesting "europe wide" topic may well be the far-right "front national" party winning the poll in France with 25% of the vote.......

but far-right parties have also won in austria and Denmark tonight (denmark may well be the net country to follow the UK out the EU door if there is an out vote here)

anti EU parties have also won in belgium, greece, even got 10% of the vote in germany......

All over Europe, anti European union party candidates are being elected into the European parliament. The UKIP victory is no surprise, Europeans simply don't want a union given the austerity measures and the financial squeeze.

Interesting times ahead.

Tories out of politics.

It will be one less party out and maybe whoever replaces them as a main candidate will care about the nation and not filling up their pockets.

scotland's is a projection and won't be announced till tomorrow because the votes from the western isles wont be counted as they dont on a sunday for religious reasons

The increase in votes for xenophobia across Europe should be a cause for great concern to all of us.

Let's just hope that it is only an anti EU message and not really an anti-foreigner sentiment represented by Nationalist attitudes across many European countries.

I realise you are most likely quoting the news broadcasts, but wasn't it you saying the other day that UKIP and the Front National, especially them, had no chance in these elections?

We'll see in 2015 as I fear Labour will win... I can't understand why people vote Labour while saying they are against their position on EU, immigration and how dire their communities have become yet, vote Labour. However, the turnout in Britain's elections shows that the majority of people are not being represented. Quite sad state of affairs.

I stand by what I said.... UKIP wont win more than a handful of seats in the general election... I'll happily bet anyone ukip wont win more than 10.... and they will be pushed to win 5

if you want to take that bet I am more than willing to make that one publicly...

and with regards to "le front national" we have been here before... in the presidential election in 2002, there was so much fracturing on the french vote in round one that jan marie le pen and the FN came in 2nd.. to the horror of the entire french nation...

so in the round 2 run off... every single party who ran in round 1 supported the then current president against Le Pen.....

there is a difference between "protest vote" and "shit just got real!!"....

the Euro election is in effect a freebie.... when it comes to the real thing (the general election) people will think twice to think because the other parties will be more aggressive

People will vote Labour because that's the party not currently shafting them, they don't see a better alternative and they hope (vainly) that things will be different this time.

Politics is now a short game. Get in by being a main party not shafting all but the wealthy and powerful, help yourself to as much as you can as quickly as you can, understanding as you do it that you'll only be in for one term.

Remember that means you don't actually have to do anything to resolve any problems because it costs money you could be helping yourself to and you're only planning to be in for one term, so who cares?

Blame any existing issues on the last lot. Lie, cheat and manipulate statistics to support this. Put in place plans and make commitments to shaft the last lot when they get in again at the end of your term.

Sit back in expensive, plush surroundings, as you eat expense account lunches or drink subsidised booze at the expense of the mugs who really know they have no option because all the (viable) parties are greedy, self-serving and playing the short game.

Far left anti EU parties have also seen increase in their numbers of MEP's in different european countries. I think the people of europe are sending a clear message that they're fed up with the corrupt, undemocratic EU. The EU is now an officially failed project, after these results tonight it has no future. Instead of bringing peace to europe the EU is stoking fires of separation and unrest and the rise of far right parties and anti EU parties. National front win in France so now they may want to leave the EU. Anti EU party win in Denmark, Golden Dawn Neo nazi party gain mep's in greece, and for the first time anti EU mep's elected in Germany. UKIP win in the UK with more MEP's than any other party, so i guess all those opinion polls that UKIP would win in the european elections were correct after all.

The 1st UKIP mep in scotland is now a forgone conclusion, the bbc and sky news have said it is more or less a given.

The EU loving Lib dems lose all their mep's but 1, lol, Danny Alexander looked like he was about to burst into tears on bbc vote 2014 programme.

So Labour and Lib dems deny the people of the uk a referendum at your peril, it will only lead to more support for UKIP!

I think the word earthquake very aptly sums up what has happened in UK politics.

Although UKIP have not yet got an MP, I think they could develop to become the "king-makers" in a future UK election, much like the Lib-Dems did in the last one.

Well not really king makers, hung parliaments are pretty rare. This could only be a 2 party coalition with the Conservatives for Labour to make a winning government they would have needed the Lib/Dems and at least one other party.

As I see it only a second Tory government and with a clear majority will deliver the referendum the UKIP voters want, so next year UKIP should only stand in Labour / Lib Dem strongholds if they seriously want a referendum.

A long way to go before the general election. A week is a long time in politics. In light of these results last night i suspect the Labour party will offer a referendum sometime before the general election if they get to power. Some political commentators were saying on the bbc, it is now very hard to predict what is going to happen. If UKIP do well in the general election it could not be beyond the realms of possibility that we could see another hung parliament, with a Conservative/UKIP coalition being formed next time?
