It's not a case of a man taking charge. The round system has been around since the first pub doors opened for business. It's worked for centuries. You both take it in turns to buy drinks. The only exception to this is the designated driver. They can opt out of the round and can sort themselves out should they wish.

It's not worth arguing over, the macho men who insist on buying all the drinks are out of touch and are not really thinking about what the woman wants at all. If he is that pushy about something as silly as buying a drink what other issues does he have in his outdated life ?
