Get you thinking caps on....

Longitude Prize 2014: six great challenges of our time

Paralysis - how can we restore movement to those with paralysis?

Antibiotics - how can we prevent the rise of resistance to antibiotics?

Food - how can we ensure everyone has nutritious, sustainable food?

Dementia - how can we help people with dementia to live independently for longer?

Flight - how can we fly without damaging the environment?

Water - how can we ensure everyone has access to safe and clean water?

One of these will be picked by a public vote.

The "winner" will be the problem you have to solve. You will have 5 years or until someone has found the solution.

I've yet to watch horizon but the food issue already has a solution to me, not sure if I'm being rather simplistic. People need to embrace GM crops and food. GM crops with higher yields and resistance to chemicals, elements, etc, will help. Seems the most obvious and immediate solution.
