I'm cycling from Walney Island (Barrow in Furness) to Whitby this weekend, so in preparation i rode a 100 mile/8200ft ascent audax on sunday, a 34 mile recovery ride on Monday & now i'm just getting ready to go out for a final 50 mile ride to settle in before resting up the rest of the week.

Think i'll have clocked up over 250 miles by the end of this week!

Walney to Ovington (nr Barnard Castle) first day then on to Whitby the 2nd day, 185 miles all in according to the .gpx route.

My adding up is terrible - will be over 350 miles this week!

Now i know why anti-friction chamois cream is so important..

Actually, thats a good tip. If (like many on here) you shave your genitals & get a shaving rash, try using chamois cream for a day or two after - it really does keep shaving rashes to a minimum.

Good luck. I hope it goes well for you and you get over the Pennines without too much pain.
