Not wanting to pay good money for expert gardeners or fancy products? Then try this foolproof method.

1, Mow yer lawn.

2. Lay planks (decking is good) along yer lawn, spacing to suit.

3. Wait and a week and then lift the planks.

Voila, the perfect stripy lawn.

For the enhanced effect, subsequently lay yer planks at across your lawn and wait a further week.

Or instead of killing or knocking back your grass, use a broom to apply the stripes in any patter you desire
