Surely if Milan retired the 3 & 6 shirts, man united could retire the number 11, given the player that vacated it

Yeah but then soon all numbers will be retired. Dont get why a number would be retired. I am sure giggs would like there to be a long list of great number 11's to follow. Look at number 7. Cantona, becks, Ronaldo etc. Long live number 11

i take your point but this is a player who's career i have watched from start to finish. For example he probably has more or as many winners medals as those three players combined

I think retiring shirt numbers is bollocks.....it's the player that was special not the shirt number and once they have gone this it.

You want young players to aspire. If one of their heroes wears a shirt number the majority of younger players will want to one day achieve that number.

Bring back 1-11.

I agree! All these stupid squad numbers, you get players coming on with 43 on there back. Your aim as a promise to be in the first eleven.
