Fave Guitar Riff

Been loving Chris Evans' show on Radio 2 this morning, listening to some great guitarists.

Think two of my favourite guitar riffs are from Felder & Walsh (The Eagles) "Hotel California" & Collins & Rossington (Lynnard Skynnard) " Free Bird".

I can see I'll be getting some old vinyl out later.

So what are yours ?

Great tune. It was actually played on a Coral electric sitar.

Rory is up there in my top 3 players of all time.

1) Eddie Van Halen.

2) Gary Moore.

3) Rory Gallagher.

Not to be confused with the 80,000,000 other versions of that song!

I still like the FunTwo and Yngwie Malmsteen versions.

I'm currently learning Jason Becker's Perpetual Burn and there's a cover by Jeff Loomis that is the cleanest I've ever heard, so I'll add that to my list.

I regard him as the best. It was reported that at the Isle of Wight festival Jimi Hendrix stated he wasn't the best guitarist in the world but Rory was. Rory was in his band Taste at the time.

Yeah there are some stunning attempts amongst the 80,000,000 + version... lol

I must admit the like of Gerry C, Funtwo and Mattriech etc are all technically awesome but I just love the nonchalant rawness Hackologue injects into it....

Yeah, I heard that story. It was part of an interview. Hendrix was asked what it was like being the best guitar player in the world and he said something like "I don't know, you'll have to ask Rory Gallagher".

I was lucky enough to see him in '88 but I would have killed to have seen him back in the 70's and early 80's his performances were incredible.

Lol, I've not been to Nijmegen on that particular pilgrimage (yet). I did fly over to the US when they reunited with Dave Lee Roth and caught a couple of shows though.

I wish they'd tour here again, the last time was back in '95 with Bon Jovi.

It's actually quite simple stuff-sweep picking. The trick is really in remembering all the arpeggios and playing it cleanly.
