Hayfever Cures

I'm lucky I don't suffer, a member of my household gets it badly though . The usual Hayfever tablets don't seem to make much difference.

Has anyone tried any different treatments or alternative remedies that have worked?

I have to use a combination of treatments...cetirizine tablets with beconase nasal spray along with opticrom eye drops...I don't have it as bad as I used to when I used to have an annual steroid injection so the combination works well for me now and no drowsiness...never found an alternative medicine that worked...

Local honey and walnuts, my mate swears by them.

I put dabs of vaseline up my nose to trap the pollen.

I also have one of those light things you stick up your nose, which seems to work. You can get them from Boots for about 20 quid.

Shower morning and evening to get the dust and pollen of you.

Fortunately, I don't suffer as bad as I used to when I were a lad but back then pretty much nothing worked. From April till around September was a miserable cycle of waking up to have to peel my eyes open in a morning because they'd stuck closed, being unable to breathe and no amount of drugs, therapies or anything for that matter.........worked. In all of the years since, the hay fever has improved for me but it's no thanks to any drugs.

the other things to do are to wear sunglasses during the day if possible, close your windows early evening and at night because pollen counts are high in the evening and don't dry bedding outside during the summer months

if it's really bad, you can ask for an immunology referral to establish which pollens they are actually sensitive to...it really helps to know because you can adapt behaviour in order to avoid what affects you the worst

Definitely local honey. It works in the same way as immunization, by building up a resistance (or antibodies) to the airborne pollen in your local area. Plus it tastes nice too.

I get bad hayfever and the only tabs that work for me contain cetrizine hydrochloride. I sometimes have to take 2 though.

Used to get it really bad as a teenager but it has eased as i have got older. Like one of the other posters, i use a combination of one a day tablet (Zirtek, piriton or Lloyds chemist hayfever tablets do the trick) along with a good hayfever nasal spray and if eyes get itchy then eye drops.

I use cetirizine like the others posting, but hear that loratidine is better for being non drowsy. Hypnosis cured me for a few years, till another health issue kicked it back on.
