Ladies, sorry to bring this up, but just had my results back today (typical on a bloody Saturday!) So can't phone GP.

My letter states there have been changes that require further investigation and a more detailed examination is required.

They say the clinic will write to me in the next 8 weeks ( ) )

I am presuming quite a few have had this, can you tell me what to expect and am I slightly alarmed over nothing?

Any advise is appreciated, thank you x

Please don't be alarmed.I had this situation a while ago.You will be offered a Coloscopy and then the abnormal cells with be removed by 'Leep' excision. Its very painless and dependant on the job you do,you will have a day or two off work! The worse bit for my me was not being able to have sex for a few weeks but thsts a small price to pay for preserving your health!!

they contacted me after having the test done a few years ago saying that i had some abnormal cells so i had to have another test, then another one in 6 months then every year for 2 years then they said the tests were ok so i only have to have one now every 5 years because i am over 50.

they sent letters and a leaflet to explain everything.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

They wouldn't send you an eight week letter if they were seriously concerned. As you are being monitored regularly they may have noticed new changes that need a closer look.

It's a long time since I had the tests and investigations, my cells were always coming back abnormal, but I don't remember anything too painful - it was more uncomfortable.

Good luck.

Try not worry ( famous last words I know! ) the whole idear if this screening is to detect any changes at all . Many woman have this, and for many it just means they will keep an eye on things. Quite often the repeat test shows all is well again.( So many things can make the cells change, sometimes its just a temp thing ) It deff does not mean the worsed at all .

You would been seen much quicker if they were concerned. Will prob mean more frequent screening . Not a woman I know , who hasn't had a similar letter. Me included.. Yes is a worry, however when you speak to someone , am sure you will feel more at ease .. Best wishes

It sounds like mild dyskariosis. Nothing too alarming but needs a referral to a colposcopy clinic to see a specialist. Happened to me years ago and had to have a loop excision. ...fairly straightforward procedure and am fine now. Try not to worry....be greatful we have smear tests in this country. Early prevention is good!

I had the loop excision 18 years ago, a short receovery period of rest and was fine. Had abnormal smear again 8 years ago and had to have smears every 3 months but it cleared up on its own within a year. Im grateful for smears, years ago i had a friend who wouldnt go and get her symptoms checked until it was too late and she died at aged 23. If it was serious they would get you in before 8 weeks so dont worry

I had CIN3, was told to call asap and book in for an appointment to have them removed (lletz) so I imagine they would ask you to do the same if it was serious.

It sounds like mild changes, they may do another smear or biopsy.

Try not to worry - I know it's easy for us to say, but the colposcopy is used to further investigate and detect any possible changes the smear may have picked up. At least you're in the system and they'll keep an eye on you. Read all the literature they send you, keep the appointments - the colposcopy isn't that bad and ring the GP on Tuesday (damn bank holidays!!).

I've had several in the last 2 years and even though several smears has detected cells, the several colposcopies has been clear.
