Holiday Choice Madness!

Why is it so difficult to decide our summer holiday destination this year?

The first time in 18 years that we have no children to consider when making our decision and it has turned into a complete cock up.

Our living room resembles a Travel Agents shop after a hurricane has ripped through it, with brochures strewn across the floor, sofas and table. We have been around the globe and back again. From Dubai to Venice, cruising to chilling on a beach, Five star to a camper van touring our own beautiful country and still we are deliberating.

When the kids were in tow it was so much simpler.

Our latest (final) decision is Naples and the Amalfi Coast of Italy but I want to go back to New York but we have been there done that .......arrrrrrggghhhhhhh!!!

Any suggestions for a good Adults Only holiday destination please?

PS it doesn't have to be swinging friendly.

For total chill out... The Maldives every day... Just pick one of the small islands that you can walk round in 10 mins. The snorkelling is amazing, and the seaplane ride to your island is something to be remembered xxxxx

File the brochures in the bin and just use the internet.

Obviously you're budget will depend on where you can go. Look at where you have always fancied and see if its affordable to you on the board basis you require. If money is no object then the skies the limit.

We love the canaries but not the tourist parts. The weather is great all year and some of the beaches are breathtaking. Do lots of research...TripAdvisor etc.

As already said above, the Maldives would be a great choice. I would love to go there but the cost is too great and we like several sun holidays a year. One day.....*sigh*

Your the second person to give Vegas a thumbs up. She also said it was a great place to relax if you want. I had never put Vegas and relaxation in the same thought process before!

Maybe I should now

Just for future purpose.....and for WHEN we can afford to go...

Can you recommend an island?

It has to be where we can strip off on a beach. We love snorkelling too and imagine it to be amazing there.

Skies aren't the limit but we do have a decent enough budget to splurge a little. Although we had better keep some in reserve to redecorate and furnish the house once our teenagers have had the run of it for ten days!

Found an amazing looking hotel with views over the city last night that looks brilliant.

May I suggest only a night or two in Naples then move on to the coast. It's a great city but is very busy and built up.

The hop on/off tour bus is worth it to get your bearings and go all the way out to the end of the line for the views.

Try to avoid hiring a car cos the mopeds will give you heart palpitations!

The circumvesuviana is very handy so try to pick places near a station.

If you see mini buses driving round the streets they are often across between a taxi and bus service, you wave to flag it down and say where you're going and it's usually a Euro or two. They drive a set route and pick up along the way and are cheaper and often more frequent then taxis.

Of you're going to Pompeii and herculaneum be there when they open, take snacks and a bottle of water (which you can refill at the ancient roman water fountains) wear comfy shoes and a hat and don't expect to do it all in a day! The museums in Naples have a lot of the finds and it will all click when you've seen both. The audio guides are very good.

Capri is great but busy, consider a trip to one or more of the other islands - they have natural hot springs and spas and a massage combined with lolling around in the sunshine and dips in the therapeutic waters can be a great antidote to lots of sightseeing.

There are some lovely restaurants in the hills and coves around Sorrento which often have deals with the hotels. They send a car to pick you up and return you and you get a fabulous meal in a great location. So chat to your receptionist/concierge.

At the cheaper restaurants the free limoncello shot is like drinking flash! At the better ones it's lovely.

Look for a hotel with its own beach or a pool on the amalfi coast, they don't all have it.

A number of years ago, me and a mate decided to go to Cancun in Mexico during spring break, we hadn't done our homework and ended up stopping in an adult only hotel called the blue bay getaway which later turned out to be a swingers hotel. Got to say, its possibly the best holiday I've ever been on, the bar/drinking games at night were a definite eye opener and bloody good fun. Hotel was also lovely, being pretty much the only Brits there too, we got a fair bit of attention

I believe so but it might be under a different name, look in any cancun brochure for the over 21's only hotel and you'll see the write up with its adult entertainment. I haven't been but my friend did but it wasn't made clear at the time why it was adults only she just thought oh lovely no kids! Haha! It was on Britains worst holidays not long after but obviously people who didn't have a clue!! They are much more careful with how they market it now lol x

Lake Como.

Como itself is busy, but Cernobbio an Bellagio are stunningly beautiful and less busy ... and you never know you just might bump into Mr Clooney ! (He has a house on the lake).

Also as daft as it sounds, the west coast of Majorca is stunning and not filled with concrete promenades and Irish Pubs. Soller is lovely.

Wherever you end up, I hope you have a great break which is everything you wish it to be.

I have been all over the work for holidays as well as business and the best child free holiday I had was on Langkawi a Malaysian island. It was textbook desert island. White sand, sea as warm as a bath and the food was out of this world. This was fifteen years ago and it may have become a bit more touristy but I will go back as soon as I can face the 14 hour flight again!

This being the first time in umpteen years away without the youngsters though 'it doesn't have to be swinger friendly' perhaps it may as well be.

Cap d'Agde. Ryanair and a backpacking tent is all you need. If you're there on June 4th we'll come and say hello

We were very close to booking Dubai. We have friends that live in Bahrain that we could go visit too but it would mean us two and the teenagers going too so we will leave that until next year.

We went to Corsica last year and it was fabulous.

Italian. Stunning mountains, good beaches, excellent food.

The first holiday destination that I have ever found myself looking in Estate Agents windows!
