HMRC is considering selling your data - a bit similar to the NHS data sale but without the potential medical benefits.

There is 38 Degrees petition.

Plus, how do you feel about the proposals to take money directly from your bank account for non-payment?

Pay the bills... no issue.

As for the selling data thing, I don't think privacy exists anymore. 'They' know everything about us. We can't stop it.

I meant making money from selling your information onto a third party. The principle of charging interest and fines for late payments is well established.

I am holy unhappy about the data selling bit, but I feel its the way lots will go. The amount of cold calling I am getting on my landline and mobile tells me a lot.

I really hate it. I hate how Google, Facebook etc all assume you want to link all your accounts and share your contacts with everyone you ever spoke to. Seems to be no way to stop it. Banks, shops, doctors, they all know too much.

Keep it offshore and have very little money in the banks over here. They do not have any access to offshore accounts especially if hidden within a little network of offshore companies.

So I personally would not be concerned at all about the access to bank accounts.

I have noticed them coming onto my mobile as well now.

Selling your financial information must create a potential risk of identity theft and fraud.

The NHS data same was a colossal failure, as well this I'm afraid.

The data protection issues alone would make it nigh on prohibitive.

My bank account has been hacked, bank was useless so closed account down for time being lost trust completely and not sure which one to trust x

The police have been doing it for years so...

It is all beginning to take the piss a bit though. HMRC also got powers in the last budget (I believe) to automatically take money owed from you via your bank. This might not be so bad if they weren't so horrendously incompetent.

I don't really believe the extra cash made from all this will help balance things.

Their is no law that states we have to pay tax, they just send you a letter and you think oh shit a tax bill and you pay it, why????? The system we have been brought up in makes us believe we have to pay this.

Yet we have the Income Tax Acts 2003 and 2005 plus the Acts that govern VAT, 1994, and NI.

a couple point of clarification with regards to what is being proposed....

they will only take money when:

a) there have been 4 letters that have gone unanswered.... and

b) the amount owed is more than 1000 pounds.... and

c) the amount in question would still have more than 5000 pounds remaining in it after any takage

with regards to taking money... remember the CSA already have this power with regards to child support...

so if it works there.... why not?

a simple answer _abio ...because if you have a dispute with the taxman ..and you take it to court and win ...you have 3 years to resurrect any grieviences ...the taxman can let it lie for 4 years and start the whole ball rolling again

despite making massive profits in Britain,

Pay hmrc a pittance in tax.

Some as little as .002%,if they give me that tax code,they can sell my soul.

its not ironic its ridiculous ..you can win your day in court with the tax man ..br told its valid all that has occurred for 3 years ...and they can bring the same arguement up 4 years later ..that you won in court and none of you again have to pay court costs because of their incompetance
