which term do you use? i prefer to use the term arse....not to keen on ass as i always thought it refers to a donkey?!

Agreed - an arse is an arse and an ass is a donkey... simple as - unless you're from the wrong side of the pond.

Mind you, the yanks use all sorts of weird words... and misconstrue others that are perfectly normal. They even banned "Are You Being Served" on account of Mrs Slocombe's pussy!

Depends on the context it's used in. I love my arse to get a gentle smack as I pass my man whilst doing stuff round the house. In a previous relationship I used to love to ask my partner to "fuck my ass"
