Have 700 million fans world wide. Is anyone else this popular?

Only English team to win the champions league and the premiership in the same season. Whilst arguably having the smallest squad of players. Compared to nowadays.

Atleast 2 of Real Madrids stars have come from United and probably have broken merchandise sales records ( Beckham and Ronaldo).

When former players were asked who would they like to play with or hate to play against. United players always get listed.

If you went outside of Western Europe and saw someone wearing a football shirt. It will be more than likely be united as they are a global brand now.

Van Persie is the best when fit. No doubt about it, but can United rely on him being for constantly?

I'd take out Welbeck, put in Hernandez and I would keep Flecture too. As Carrick is getting on a bit. I would put Flecture in his role when he's being rested. Also de gea is coming good too. Any other player should go. Apart from giggs that is, lol.

Real Madrids merchandise sales have gone through the roof as usual as they keep buying big names and they win trophies too. Barcelona being in a lot of money through ticket sales, shirt sales of their latest stars and they win trophies. Bayern Munich have just been winning games for fun and deservedly so too. United haven't done much and most of that has probably come through sponsors and winning the odd title.

maybe on the southcoast but I have never seen a Madrid shirt on my travels through Asia and rarely (apart from Ronaldo) see a Madrid shirt outside the capital. Barca shirts are seen everywhere. I have never seen a bayern shirt anywhere in the world. Bayern are only up there because of their massive sponsorship deal, they don't bring in half the gate money that united do. Deloitte only tell half the story

With a good Manager, the current squad (less Felaini and Mata) won the Premiership at a canter last season. United have lost Vidic. Giggs, Evra and Ferdinand out of contract this summer bit a good Manager to come in.

A good new Manager does not need to spend massively, he just needs to invest wisely and get the best out of who is there. Rooney may have to go but his sale and the funding already available could secure a new full back and a couple of creative midfielders.

Managers make things happen and to a degree, the playing staff are largely irrelevant.

Don't forget the players have aged 2 years, which is a lot in football. Not to mention their confidence taking a beating too. Rooney/Persie and Hernandez would put fear into any team when fully fit, of they had the world class midfielders to back them up. However Persie is hardly ever fit and when he's out he's out for a whiles. Rooney is always moaning and thinks he too big for the club. So united need a manager who can cope with big egos and get fear back into the players that no one os bigger than the club. I also believe person and Rooney can't play together and then getting the best from both of them. Unless Rooney is less selfish and drops deep when told and enjoys it, which he never does.

Defence: Jones should stay. Either Ferdinand or Vidic should go, along with Smalling and Evans.

Midfield: Kagawa and Mata to stay, along with Fellaini to be used more defensively. The rest at the manager's mercy.

Attack: Hernandez to stay. Rooney because they're tied to him now. Welbeck to go. Would flourish in a mid-table side because he's still in development.

Real have the national debt of a small continent, are hated by a significant proportion of spaniards because of their links with the Franco regime. Barca also have significant debts and it would be career suicide for any bank manager to call in the loans. I bet if you walked along Bournemouth sea front you would see a significant number of Barca and united tops, maybe one Ronaldo shirt and nothing from bayern.

I am also betting I have travelled to far more countries than the sour grapes bunch too

There have been some interesting points, but getting back to the original thread:-

De Gea - developing nicely into a confident keeper who shot stops with the best of them

Smalling, jones, Evans, butter - again all developing and with more games /experience will get better...

Carrick, cleverly, Valencia, mata (

Hernandez, Rooney wellbeck and van persie...

All Utd need is a strong manager. Keep the back room staff of the class of 92 and bring on and encourage the youth - like against Hull on Tuesday night.

I would rather see a young squad grow together than waste money on foreign "stars".

Read a newspaper article that said Bayern may want to offload Robben in the summer and Van Gaal if he becomes Utd manager would be sure to sign him?

I think he'd be a welcome addition to the team, sell Ashley Young i've never rated him.

The elephant in the room is Rooney. £300k per week and lengthy contract is fine if he scores 40+ goals a season or is an elite player but he is not and is never going to be now either. With his wages, every other star will want the same and a huge mistake as only Messi and Ronaldo deserve that pay.

Darren Fletcher - not a top four midfielder and must be moved on as he is too old to improve

Danny Welbeck - great pace and link up play but he's has 3 seasons and doesn't cut it. Either use him as a winger or sell him on

Rio Ferdinand - too many school boy errors these days and now past it. Move him on.

Nani - like Anderson, what is the point of him? Never starts two consecutive games and rarely performs. He must go.

Evra - keep him if we can. We need some leadership and his defending is not as bad as everybody makes out.

Hernandez - since 2010 he has rarely started a game and for his own sake, needs to play regularly. Move him.

Valencia - keep him as squad player.

Carrick - declined over last 12 months but still needed for another season or so. Maybe not all his fault but he needs a strong defensive midfielder alongside him. He also needs to get forward more.

Cleverley - time is up, useless player and time to move on for his own sake

These are the obvious changes for me that the new manager needs to make

Man United do not need a clear out. The same players won the league last season.

They just need a new manager and some new defenders to inject some enthusiasm into the squad.

They one it because de gea was coming good and the strikers were all on form. The midfielders and defenders were still lacking in talent. Barring the full backs of course. Although they didn't defend as they should have done. 1 striker who can play along side Rooney or Van Persie as they can't play together. Pick Hernandez more than Welcbeck, 2 midfielders and 2 centre backs, year after 2 full backs as evra is getting on and I don't see Rafael as world class, but he's young and developing well. But we do need a manager who has done it all and can manage big egos.
