Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

Not quite Buddha but a sort of Buddhist teaching anyway:

“Do you see this glass?” he asked us. “I love this glass. It holds the water admirably. When the sun shines on it, it reflects the light beautifully. When I tap it, it has a lovely ring. Yet for me, this glass is already broken. When the wind knocks it over or my elbow knocks it off the shelf and it falls to the ground and shatters, I say, ‘Of course.’ But when I understand that this glass is already broken, every minute with it is precious.”

Are you able to enjoy your precious moments or do you try and keep the glass unbroken at all costs?

I will enjoy it for as long as I can and do all I can to make sure that 'temporary' endures as long as possible.

It is time with people I was thinking about when I first posted this thread. Later I started to think about the things not done because it "might" damage the "glass".

so basically, because of entropy, appreciate stuff in its temporarily organised state, as all objects exist in various states of order and decay within the spacetime continuum as seen from an outside observer. since dark matter sends to have an accelerating and inflating effect on the universe, entropy will only ever increase until lowest energy states are realised, meaning that there can be no reordering after chaos.

I see. very zen. the glass is already broken.. the motor has already burned out on the washing machine.. the birds have already crapped on your just washed car...

When you do something that makes you happy, creates a good memory, you write it on a slip of paper and pop it in a jar. Little things and big things.

It's easy to remember the big bad things that happen but the jar shows how many lovely things happen in a life.

Write down on a bit of paper when you have a happy memory and put it in the jar. I also put funny things that people say... anything happy really. It's great to look back on.

I started this year with a promise to make more happy moments in my life.

My little tour of the country continues and I have enjoyed every trip away, even if I do end up in strange places - like the Jam Museum.

Lowestoft next week - I'm sure I will find something to do there.

This is a beautiful condensation of the physics notion of chaos. Order is unnatural, disorder is. Enjoy the glass for what you behold in this moment because it is all you have.

I try and look after my glass. if the water within is rancid then it may leave an unpleasant taste when other people drink from it. The odd chip is fine

I think the moral of the story is this; the glass isn't broken yet, however one day it will be, so appreciate it whilst you can. If you really want to dig deeper, nothing is permanent, even that which is most important to us. In this example a glass which holds water, which we can't live without, will one day break, so therefore what gives us life will one day break, so therefore so will we.... Pretty deep shit lol anyone up for a chat about which flavour of pot noodle is your favourite? Haha

It's deliberately cryptic. There is no right answer .The writer of the words does not wish to teach their understanding but to encourage thought observation and acceptance of the world and it's concepts. To my mind some excellent insights and interpretations.

I do hope the person suggesting this refreshing op was "forcing a view" was not serious if so they ignorantly missed the whole point.

There have been some interesting interpretations of the teaching. I read a lot and come across things that interest me that, that might guide me and wonder what others think. That's all.

A day of creating precious memories and challenging myself, and others, and all without worrying about what next has been a joy.

I'm of the view that one should try to maximise their enjoyment of the moment despite it's temporary nature, not because of it.
