Know it's a bit of a strange to post on here, but how do you go about writing one for a company that isn't currently employing anyone?

A cover letter should be a brief introduction to yourself as an employee.

Outline your skills that apply in broad terms to the company you are applying too. No point pointing out your hobby of shooting game if you are applying to Pets at Home.

Include the point it's a speculative application.

Also worth doing is putting your skills in the frame that shows you've researched the company.
