So i came across a spider this morning just underneath the mantle piece on my fireplace.. never seen that type of spider before. Curious i took a photo and posted it to Facebook

Few suggestions saying it was a false widow, but after a google search i still couldnt find one that it resembled.

Due to the unknown uncertainty of what my incy wincy friend was he is sadly no longer with us

Still baffled though

Murderer. Would you kill a human just because you could not safely identify it? Bring back hanging. And compulsory dunking of suspected witches.

I may need to lie down now. And take my pills.

someone suggested it was a mouse spider and that its harmful to kids,, inside or outside i wasnt gonna let it potentially hurt my little one..

Somewhere in North Norfolk

Spiders do much more good than harm.

In the UK there are very few species of spiders which and only a handful of spider bites which need medical treatment are reported each year here.

For those who are good with Spiders its body was the size of my thumb nails.. bout 2 cm

was a pretty chunky looking spider not a flimsy one lol

shiny black body and had a brown picture on its body (oddly looked like a spider lol).. legs were quite dumpy but not overly long.

had some pretty mean looking front pincers or legs.. (was kinda huddled up not open)

wasnt fury

Maybe is was a little...no they are brown...not sure what sort of spider it was...but... the flies in your house will thank you by landing on any surface with food on it and spitting on the food.

Enjoy

Possibly was a false widow but as they have been over here for almost a century without any fuss I'd say you would have been safe. Their bit is venomous but no more so than a wasp or a bee.

Just read the most hilarious story about them on the daily star website!!

False widows are basically harmless anyway. The fear has come due to over sensationalised media reports. Wolf spiders bite with just the same oomph and no one worries about them.

I quite like spiders coz they eat flies and I detest flies dirty things. I draw the line on letting nasty looking ones live. I've had millipedes and scorpions in mine

If almost sounds like a young huntsman, but their not native to the uk. Was it really fast? They are amazingly fast and can bite but not poisonous etc and will never really confront people.

Over the rainbow, under the bridge

We don't have dangerous spiders here so I never harm them. Just scoop them up and put them in the garden.

I think you'll find it was a marble fireplace spider, not very common but renowned for taking vengeance on anyone who kills it's mates, don't go near the fireplace for a while just to be safe

They are dangerous, one once crawled onto my chest as I wrapped my bath towel round me.

I fell backwards and cracked my head off the tiles.
