On the thread about a guy wanting a fb, someone mentioned that they want a guy to treat them with respect. It got me thinking....

What is respect? What does this mean to you?

Respect is having a thought for someone's feelings and their wishes. It's having some consideration that they exist and won't be the same as you.

It's something I've been thinking about a lot recently and I'd have to say for me respect starts with being upfront. I'd much rather know what someone's thinking about, even if it's something I might not want to hear, rather than have to guess. I get that I'm a little blunt but I have to be; I can't deal with game playing and bullshit myself so I don't do it to others.

I think respecting someone means that youll go out of your way to foresee issues or negative consequences for someone and aim to avoid them, merely wanting the positive for them. Youll not be intrusive and will honour their boundaries and stated wishes and needs. You will be honest and open, sharing trust appropriately. This all depends on the circumstances, as people you hardly ammunicate with deserve respect.

"Respect" is a song written and originally released by Otis Redding in 1965. The song became a 1967 hit and signature song for R&B singer Aretha Franklin. The music in the two versions is significantly different, and through a few minor changes in the lyrics, the stories told by the songs have a different flavor. Redding's version is a plea from a desperate man, who will give his woman anything she wants. He won't care if she does him wrong, as long as he gets his due respect, when he comes home ("respect" being a euphemism).
