Sack Clarkson

He's a disgrace to the bbc , The mirror said it's expert was 75% sure he used an offensive word in a bit of the show never aired so I think the 300+ people that complained about something they haven't seen isn't jumping on the bandwagon at all .

Sack Him Now ...... Frankie Boyle's free at the moment .

Storms and teacups, especially as it was a rhyme we all used when we were younger, there is so much going on in the world and that's the best they could come up with, it's the papers who should be ashamed if themselves

I saw Top Gear is the Beeb's 2nd highest earning programme and Clarkson sold them his percentage for £15m. They are probably scared it won't work without him or he would already be gone.

I did read somewhere that the Jonathon Ross and the other idiot only had 6 complaints about that phone message until the papers got hold of it then it was 30,000 .

If it was someone else I would be more willing to give them the benefit of the doubt but he has plenty of previous.

Ron Atkinson called someone a lazy N off air on ITV and got sacked.

Clarkson and his mates are jerks who like driving fast cars and doing childish things, whatever the say is usually childish and immature, and probably offensive to someone ,

How many of us guys would love a job, wher we could act like jerks drive fast cars and just generally enjoy our life. And get paid for it , I know I would have his job any time he wants to swap, just point him in my direction

If you don't like clarkson , change the channel it's not like we only have channel in this country

What exactly does "Honkies" mean? "

Honky (also spelled honkie or sometimes honkey) is mainly a racial slur for white people, predominantly heard in the United States. The first recorded use of honky in this context may date back to 1903, although the use of "Honky Tonk" occurred in films well before that time.[1] The exact origins of the word are generally unknown and postulations about the subject vary.

Of you look at my later post you'll see that I said I don't know what his motives where for asking for it to be excluded, i'm not naive enough to believe that he wasn't aware of the impact of being heard to say that word and that could be why he asked for the take not to be shown......but I don't know any more than the rest of us do."

2+2=4 not 22.

You work out why he wanted it excluded, hardly takes a genius to work it out

It is getting to the point If jeremy clarkson said "yes I am a racist" people wouldnt care.

Again I just think he is an upper class sexist twat, I dont think he probably views anyone other than 'english', 'male', 'class' people as equals to be honest.

as I continually say, I'm not one for complaining at every comment here and there or jumping on every PC issue...

but I watched the top gear clip of the "slope", and I know EXACTLY what clarkson meant, I'm not fucking stupid...and I dont believe others are.

High brow japes have consequences, entertainers should know this by now...

and finally?..I never liked him anyway, and his shows are certainly not why I'd put the BBC up as an amazing broadcaster ffs...now, attenbourgh...

I'm quite happy for anyone that wishes to be generalized in such a manner if thats what they want...count me out.

thats not double standards...its wanting respect.

Many here, might say they are sluts, whores etc...thats not what they want to be known as outwith this environment. They wouldnt accept their boss/employee saying "u slut", "yes whore"... its not exactly double standards to have different identities in a certain scene.

I really do not like this man as he is arrogant and self opinionated. He is in a position of responsibility and has a duty to ensure that his broadcasting is inoffensive to all sections of the community.

I think he is a dinosaur his kind of views and personality are so last year. He should resign.

Does it matter that the clip was not aired? His attempts at an apology are sickeningly embarrassing as he can see a lucrative career, as a purveyor of mundane television, going down the pan.

It was used when we were kids but it was offensive we just thought it was ok because we knew no better like the book I had called Little Black Sambo. There is a whole culture of suppression and prejudice summed up in one word.

So it means nothing to you then. If that's what the undecipherable mumble was and it wasn't aimed at anyone, no group of people, wasn't said to incite racism or hatred is it offensive?

If you don't like the word you should not use it at any time, regardless of colour. You treating the word differently depending on who said it is actually discrimination. Treating someone differently based on the colour of their skin!

You missed the point, if black called you honky, would be racist. If white called you honky, would be taken in different context

Jc is white so it's taken in different context to if a black man had said it.

"

Was he black? if so fine

If he was white then it's racist, hope that helps to clear any confusion you have in your head"

This. It's that simple. The word has baggage. If black people have taken ownership of the word, after what has taken place historically, then accept it.

Over many years, there was (and still is) a lot of shit that black people have had to 'accept.' And it was a lot more serious than 'them still using a word that we can't.'

This thread has been an interesting read. I've actually watched the outtake.

Three questions - to those who said this rhyme when they were young, why don't you still say it now or teach your children to say it?

Why do people think Clarkson asked for it to be cut out?

Although many of us at times get frustrated with certain aspects of the media, is it desireable or acceptable to foster a 'shoot the messenger' society?

Sorry buddy can't have one rule for black people and one rule for white. It's either offensive or it isn't. As for clarkson he is a buffoon he is rude and down right stupid at times. He is also very funny. As for the word I think it was used as part of a very old song that he himself mumbled so as not to cause offense. If we want boring terrible television without any controversy then sack them man. Words must always be taken within the context they are meant and I think this is a PC world gone mad!

As for top gear i hate the show. I remember when it was about reviewing new cars on the market. Its now about 3 middle aged twats playing in cars around the world doing meaningless things or reviewing cars most of us will never get the chance to drive or own.

To be honest id be happy for it to be taken off air. But what i think counts for nothing as a few million others see it differently.

Christ we're all humans, far far worse things happening in the world. When did the world get so sensitive!

Most people, regardless of colour, get called one thing or another. It means nothing FFS

"This thread has been an interesting read.

I still say the rhyme but have always said catch a nipper so would teach what I used.

There are any number of reasons it got cut, shit scene, trying to make the show fit the running time etc I'll concede its more than likely its because JC knew the backlash he would get but then doesn't that show he has an understanding of the power his words have?

I know I have said some things in the moment that where perhaps a bit near the mark but one word does not define me. I have said jokes about race, gender, disability etc but I am not racist or homophobic or any other term used for discrimination.

As for shooting the messenger. This incident was dealt with. The scene was cut, no one had the chance to be offended until some expert decided to out clarkson. Why? To what end?

"Couldnt give a toss about what he did or didnt say. The worlds gone pc correctness mad. Call me snowflake honky twat or whatever you like. Its just names people need to harden up a bit.

As for top gear i hate the show. I remember when it was about reviewing new cars on the market. Its now about 3 middle aged twats playing in cars around the world doing meaningless things or reviewing cars most of us will never get the chance to drive or own.

To be honest id be happy for it to be taken off air. But what i think counts for nothing as a few million others see it differently."

Exactly! The world has gone PC mad

"it as not meant in an offensive way this rhyme was always used when I was a kid and we didn't think anything about it

people are way too sensitive about things nowdays

Guess we blacks must be wrong, we should accept it as a compliment to be called the "N" word, you happy now?

O

How do you take it if another black person says it or calls you it?

Same way you would take it if another white person called you Honky?

So it means nothing to you then. If that's what the undecipherable mumble was and it wasn't aimed at anyone, no group of people, wasn't said to incite racism or hatred is it offensive?

If you don't like the word you should not use it at any time, regardless of colour. You treating the word differently depending on who said it is actually discrimination. Treating someone differently based on the colour of their skin!

Means something to me when whites such as you are telling me it's ok and accept it?

Whites like me?? Is that not racist???

I am not TELLING you anything. Merely having a discussion about it. Perhaps giving a point of view you don't like but that's life I'm afraid. Not everyone has to agree with you.

How is calling you white racist?

Calling me black would not be racist either, however calling me the "N" word is racist.

You don't have to agree with me nor have i asked you, just giving you my point of view, accept it and stop twisting it to suit yourself"

Errrr because white is my race!! Racism can happen the other way round you know.. Using it in the phrase 'whites like you' is racist. What I'd I'd have said 'blacks like you' you'd have found that racist.

in Lancashire

Ah yes the good old days when racist drivel called a 'comedy' show was popular..

anyone thinking that shite like that would or should be brought back needs to take a look at themselves..

btw, it used to think it acceptable for domestic violence to be tolerated as ok within a marriage along with a mans right to rape a woman in said..

we have moved on and are better for it..

Clarkson is a moron, a marmite character. Whether he should go is debatable but the fact that he's apologising for something he thought ok to say at least requires his conduct as an employee being looked at..

I think we should have some more dead baby jokes facebook pages...

missing that freedom of wishing to cause offense

happy to want to dismiss possibly vulnerable people

Not really concerned that people are bullied at school,in work for being different from the others

freedom of speech is a wonderful thing.

The mirror said it's expert was 75% sure he used an offensive word!!!

Anyone think there may be a hidden agenda here?

I am sure by now we have all seen the unaired close up recording him saying on the news:

eany meany miney moe

catch a mmmm by his toe

with a hand over his mouth looking very uncomfortable.

I am also sure we have seen the aired version where he is obviously a lot happier and being his usual buffoonish self.

I find myself asking 2 questions:

1/ How can anyone believe that a man clearly so uncomfortable with a script could be in the wrong? and if there is a fault is it not with the script writers and directors rather than the presenter?

2/ How did the papers get hold of the unaired footage? This seems to be more tabloid sleaze, maybe this outpouring of vitriol should be aimed at a sleaze-bag of a journalist, his editor and the proprietor who think its OK to publish more of their carefully scripted filth knowing that it will inflame racial tension and damage a mans reputation in order to sell a few rags!

The mirror said it's expert was 75% sure he used an offensive word!!!

I hope Clarkson sues the pants off them!

Nope because to be honest I am not bothered that you called me white. I was just pointing out how hypocritical you were being. Who's twisting things to suit now?

Don't think ever said you should accept it. I was questioning it's offensiveness if it was said to no one in particular and not to incite racial hatred.

Have you ever told a joke about other races? I can think of a well known children's rhyme about a China man, ever said that in your adult life? Any Scottish man, irish man, Welsh man jokes? Or are they ok because they aren't about skin colour?

My mother used what was deemed racist words but that was the way people spoke then as she was brought up in a different age.

I would have thought that we have moved on from then and would consider peoples feelings and respect them.

In this day and age it is not acceptable to use abusive terms just because of a persons skin colour or religion.

I was taught the same nusery ryme but substituted the word mouse for the " N" word when my son was a child is that so difficult ???

Respect people when they tell you something is offensive !!!!!

I think a lot of people need to look at the contaxt it was said in not what was said.

It was said in a rhyme that anyone over the age of 40 (brought up in the seventies either said it a lot or heard it a lot when deciding on who to pick for their team or who to pick as "it".

He DID NOT say it to a coloured person he DID NOT say it in a racist way he was mimicking out the rhyme. If it was ever said at all. So where does all this racist crap come into it, if i as a WHITE person went up to any coloured person and said "hey nigger hows it goin" I would deserve to what came next, but that is whats wrong with todays language its OK for one colour or creed to do it but everyone is up in arms if another does it, seems like double standards to me!!!!

The same as you take.it from a black person. You know.....equality and all that!!

Unless I am calling it directly to your face in an insulting and offensive context then I will understand your offence.

And 'she' never used to say the n word as part of the rhyme. 'she' has said twice on this very thread that 'she' used to and still does say nipper. Unless that's offensive to children?

You don't have to agree with me nor have i asked you, just giving you my point of view, accept it and stop twisting it to suit yourself

Errrr because white is my race!! Racism can happen the other way round you know.. Using it in the phrase 'whites like you' is racist. What I'd I'd have said 'blacks like you' you'd have found that racist.

So calling you white is racist but yet calling someone the "N"word is ok and "we" should accept it.

Is that your point?

I think you mentioned something about not twisting what you said in an earlier post , and the poster said ' whites like you ' which tbh is a sweeping generalisation , but she didn't say anything about the 'n' word being okay .

I see, so when she said "it was not meant in an offensive way" when she used it when a child.

What way would you like me to take it from a white person?

Do enlighten me

The same as you take.it from a black person. You know.....equality and all that!!

Unless I am calling it directly to your face in an insulting and offensive context then I will understand your offence.

And 'she' never used to say the n word as part of the rhyme. 'she' has said twice on this very thread that 'she' used to and still does say nipper. Unless that's offensive to children?"

Just like JC said he never said it but edit it out please BBC.

Next you'll be telling the world ius square and to accept it

If an employer was only 75% sure that an employee had done an act of gross misconduct could they sack them or would that be unfair dismissal?

Surely it would be unfair dismissal as how can you be 100% sure you are right to sack them???

"Storms and teacups, especially as it was a rhyme we all used when we were younger, there is so much going on in the world and that's the best they could come up with, it's the papers who should be ashamed if themselves

Storms and teacups??

Next you'll be telling us it's ok to use nigger and other such words word as "it's what we did when we were young"

I had a mail off a guy a few days ago who called himself exactly this word, so you tell me

Was he black? if so fine

If he was white then it's racist, hope that helps to clear any confusion you have in your head is this guy serious? If its ok for a black guy to call you nigger then why get so insulted?"

You for real??

Because a white person said it so deemed racist.

If it's too complicated for you to absorb, sorry but i cannot help you

I watched the clip..half expecting the cars to be to be back and white lol

I do think on this occasion its way over the top...but as I have said before, I find the 'slope' airing(which was actually broadcast), as actual racial mockery.

All he needs is a little more self control...offending views he has about other races/countries/sexes, can be kept private

while not being a fan of top gear..or him...I still wish sometime the cars to be viewed were the focus anyway and not the stupid meanderings they get up to.

To be honest racism is only acknowledgment, I mean this is quite a prime example. Yes it's offensive, but does It need to be this blown up by journalists and the press? I bet 95% of people wouldn't of even known if wasn't for that, then that 95% of people just jump on the bandwagon. It's a work that's deemed as ' highly offensive' now but only through acknowledgement of it, it seems acceptable enough for black people to drop the N bomb but white people aren't allowed, if it's that bad it should not be any more acceptable for one person to use it than another.

To be honest it's a fact people hate clarkson and maybe this is why it has be come so blown of of proportion? But let's face it the BBC cannot afford to loose Clarkson.

Plus I'll never know how I think it was the 'sun' newspaper managed to write 2 pages on the matter.

It's pathetic and blown well out of proportion, jeeeez!

Plus it's a Saturday, lovely day I couldn't care less about the 'clarkson N word case' I'd rather crack a tinny open and chill out than discuss a matter that is just a blown up pretty much am irrelevant blown up matter, your all as bad as the journos and press!

There a FAR FAR more important matters going on in this world, it's corrupt and people are astonished by Clarkson dropping the N word? That shows what are country has come to!

Lol

"This thread has been an interesting read.

The reason some people have substituted the word 'nipper' in that rhyme is the same reason that piece of film is an outtake. It is widely acknowledged that the 'N' word is in itself offensive to the majority of Black people. I would suggest it is extremely offensive to almost all Black people when used in a derogatory way.

The rhyme has it's roots in slavery and catching and abducting Black people.

Do you understand just how offensive that is?"

Yes. I know the history of the word and I know why the word was substituted for others in the rhyme.

My question is, if a word is used in a context that is not racially motivated is it still offensive.

People use the term grammar nazi on here all the time. Don't see them getting hauled over the coals about it do you?

My stance on one group of people bring allowed to use it but said group if people being offended if I use it still stands. Black people not only use it as a word to indicate friendship and brotherhood, they also.use it in anger and violence so.it's not about reclaiming the word at all.

To suggest otherwise is disingenuous.

The rhyme has it's roots in slavery and how acceptable it was to catch and abduct Black people.

Do you understand just how offensive that is?

Can you understand why using the 'N' word in such a derogatory 'slave based' rhyme in 2014 whilst filming a BBC program is huge news to those who find it offensive?

If you accept any of these points then you may begin to appreciate that the journalist has a duty to expose such behavior in a hope that it happens less in the future.
