Stupid car help please

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

I have been given an automatic Ford Fiesta as a courtesy car.

I need a bit of stupid, keep it simple help here.

What does S mean on the gear stick?

Is there a way of turning the lights off?

The s is usually a sport mode. Holds the gears a little longer before changing. Can't help with the lights though....

Lights are on the dash to the right of the steering wheel. It's a knob that you turn. S is sports mode. I drive a fiesta

Depends on your state of mind me as a petrol head would consider sport but Its what you want it to be swing mode lol get to ya meets quicker

I found the knob on the side by the dash but on 0 the lights are still on. I can turn to side lights or both front and side together but no off.

The lights are on. They seem to fade out when I take the keys out.

It is very sluggish compared to my old manual Nissan Micra. It seems to take ages to make up its mind to move.

What model is it ?

Some have automatic lights. If it's dark or overcast then will stay on

The car possibly has DRL's which are lights that can't be turned off (or require you to muck around with the cars settings).

The 'S' stands for 'should have been given a different courtesy car' but there isn't enough room for that acronym!

As for the lights issue...all cars now have daytime running lights at the front as part of an EU standard so the lights you mean may not turn off. Mainbeam head lights should do, but there will always be some kind of light at the front if it was built after 2012 (I think...might be later it came into the standards) x

The lights always come on when the car is started, they have daylight settings. If it has an A setting everything is automatic and you never need think about them - if it's a new Fiesta. Mine's very quick off the blocks but it's a 125PS turbo model, I love it to bits!

The new Fiesta is probably the best car Ford have made in the last 20yrs. Everything else has been junk.

The lights fading after you take the keys out; do they stay on for a little while? If so that's Ford's safety thing letting you get to your front door before plunging you into darkness.

s-sport mode, leave it in D-drive

If your lights are on in the 0 position you have daytime running lights, will go of when the key is out.

I have an auto (DSG) VW Golf; the 'S' mode is 'sport' - you only need to use it if you want more power, i.e. overtaking. All you need to be concerned about is 'P' mode (park) and 'D' (drive).

Thank you all.

It's a 2013 1.4 petrol automatic - that's all I know.

I'll get used to it at just the point when my car is returned to me.

I will now ignore the EU lights and use P,R and D.

park the car put it in stop mode and you'll be fine
