I like to consider myself as alt. Recently got winged skull above my ankle. I absolutely love it, its a beautiful piece of work. but when i tell online friends on here about i get replies like oh that's way too much and over the top and I've also been called sinister and morbid and blocked. Not very bothered but knocks your self esteem. Wonder why people can't just be happy for me, i wanted it, its my body. Lol. So much for friends on fab

So you're not bothered but it knocks your self esteem? That does imply that you are bothered....you decided on the tatoo, you love it and you're responsible for your self esteem so embrace your alt self, why would you be interested in what people like that think?

If you're going to judge someone you don't know because of a tattoo you need to get a life. I have a big phoenix on my shoulder, some like it, some don't. I didn't get it to please other people, like pretty much everyone that has a tattoo, I got it for me. Ignore people like that, they're probably not someone you want to meet anyway with that narrow minded attitude.

I've seen many tattoos on women which are amazing.

Women can get away with more decorative ones than men. IMO

I'm with you.

I had a transfer of the car from Wacky Races on my arm. I was young and careless. People didn't understand I wanted to express who I was and didn't want to conform to society.

I was treated so differently, and I remember trying to scrub it off with tears rolling down my face.

Sadly there are plenty of narrow minded judgmental people here and in the world to spit venom at your decisions and pride x trust me I know I'm a man with long hair and piercings lol

Treat it as a selection tool knowing dispite how good looking a person maybe if they vent or disapprove they are not likely to be compatible with your open mind

I like deorative tattoos hence I went for flowers and butterflies. I'm a man, mostly, and when people ask to see it they always pause and then say wow. I don't care what other people think. I love it.

Love yours too

That's a bit shit that they did that. It's only a tattoo. Not like it's on your face or anything.

im sorry to say it, but the vast majority of 'friends' on here are as false as hair extensions, or the tan you have out of a bottle.

its extremely rare to get some 'proper' friends from these kind of sites as they are pretty much just blowing smoke up your arse to get what they want.

if you are happy with you, then fuck what anyone else thinks (and before anyone else says this, i have said this to single blokes too )

true proper, real friends will accept you for pretty much who you are, warts and all, are there to offer advice, and to help pick up the pieces when you get it wrong.

other friends, are just there for their own reasons.

no need to have negativity in your life, is there?

Why should a tattoo above your ankle affect people? Well unless it goes all the way up to your neck.

I am trying to think of a sexual position where the ankle is in the guy's face.... a little help please

I won't get one though, only because I am allergic to needles and pain

It's a shame it's not visible on your profile. I'm amazed that a tattoo in such an innocuous place could cause this reaction.

I have loads of tattoo's and not the kind that people call 'cool'. I once did a thread to ask if I should 'warn' people in advance in case my tatts put people off. Most replies said yes mention them.

I decided against that....!! Now I don't mention them at all. It says on my profile I have tattoo's, I reckon that's all they need to know.

I've met people at clubs and parties and no-one has been rude about them. Some have mentioned them in passing but not in a bad way. They wanted me, not my tatts.

For how common tattoos are these days, I find it hard to believe that people still display such shock...

However, if they're showing their true colours, surely you're having lucky escapes if they're turning out to be so anal about something so minor? I mean, as another member said, even if you don't like tattoos, at what stage are you constantly going to have someone's ankle in your face? x

Depends what they are, tattoos are usually well thought out and personal to the person , what does a gun suggest or try to suggest? If people are having 'controversial' tattoos for shock value then people will (rightly or wrongly) make a judgement of that person based in the tattoo

if they are offended or put off by tattoos then they are not for you and move on as for having a gun tattoo being controversial i don't see it i can understand if its a swastika or offensive word but a gun only same as sword or knife

could be any number of reasons fave band ie guns and roses, like western or action films, think it looks good, part of a tattoo ie woman holding it which is like one my hubby has. just dont see why its controversial is having a cross controversial due to religion or a skull as it depicts death people im interested to know why you think it is so controversial

Tattoos have only reached their current popularity over perhaps the last 30 years. To our parents and grandparents generation tattoos more often than not indicated a hoodlum or possibly a sailor.

Those of us of an age to have been influenced, rightly or wrongly, by the older generation will find some of that conditioning still remains in their psyche. Like adults in 20 years may have an inexplicable dislike of hoodies so some have a distrust of tattoos today.
