I watched the video but couldn't distinguish the word being used for my ears, but according to a newspaper, a forensic audio scientist confirmed the word was used.

Clarkson has tried to defend the footage in a open speech via Twitter but I can only guess what'll happen next, let's see how the BBC will treat this.

Sounds very much like someone has a grudge to bare. The footage was never aired, he did three takes, he noticed that it 'could' be interpreted that he said it, he asked for a different take to be used. It was also years ago yet it magically gets leaked to a rival tabloid to the one he writes a column for.

Smear campaign anyone?

Frankly I like the guy, he's a breath of fresh air.

Nothing to apologise for? Really?

He was being filmed. He used an offensive, racist word. He is now begging for forgiveness.

PC gone mad? Yes, of course it's acceptable to be racist on a car programme! I wonder how many black people work on the programme?

My Dad is as Black as black comes..he has mates that call him Negro.

....and he's an ex pro-boxer so could knock any of them out in one punch and he doesn't mind at all.

It depends on the context.

He's also a massive fan of Clarkson as am I.

Even if he did say it (which I doubt)...its part of who he is and he just says things in jest that the media Just like to hype the shit out of.

He didn't use the word though. He mumbled something in its place and realised afterwards that it sounded like he did, he then totally replaced the word with 'teacher' in a following take, which was the one that he insisted was broadcast.

Years later someone has the unbroadcast footage forensically analysed and then leaks it to the press!

He has nothing to appologise for!

Clarkson has a history of opening his mouth before putting his brain in gear, he used an inappropriate nursery rhyme and realised such after he'd used it. It was never aired ,was two years ago ,so I'm sure if the audiance who witnessed it had found it offensive, one of them would have brought this to the medias attention long before now.

I noticed last night a few people on Facebook posting links to the story and saying how disgusting it is him dropping the N bomb,,, well if it's that disgusting why promote it? People get manipulated by the media and that sells their rags, pathetic when there's much more serious news worthy stories (such as a triple killer getting awarded compo because prison service lost his nose hair clippers)

Using negro and nigger are not quite the same. Even if your father is happy for Clarkson to call him a nigger it doesn't follow that others would be. It's not 1970 and he was being filmed for a national terrestrial television programme.

It's alright though because it's Clarkson and he can say what he likes. No! In any other employment situation he would be suspended, investigated and disciplined. Condoning this and applauding him for using offensive racist language just allows us to return to being offensive, racist and discriminatory to everyone.

Ben, when the chips are down and we're back to being Mulatto and half-caste they won't see the white in us, just the black. When the door gets slammed in your face because all you are is a nigger I hope Clarkson is there to slap you on the back and make you laugh.

^^ I don't think like that.

I've never been on the end of genuine racist abuse in my life.

My mum is white and my dad is Black.

It's not that the clip wasn't used on television or that he thought better of it after using the word (mumbled something that sounded enough like nigger that he "insisted" another take was used). It is the fact that in a filmed environment, at work, he would even use the word.

I don't give a toss what he does at home but on camera, for the BBC, he is at work for an organisation that claims to be an equality and diversity employer and service provider.

becuase u like a tv personality and it doesnt affect u or ur family...still doesnt mean we start to accept this type of its ok to be against PC common sense etc shite.

we expect more from our children at school not to use offensive behaviours...I dont know why that seems to elude us when we are grown up...or famous...........

I'm not calling for Clarksons head or anything at all...but when u have some people, who think thats an acceptable way to speak about other people...we start having problems, when my name becomes nigger instead of that black guy, or indeed theres paddy.

I rarely have had problems growing up in slummy parts of glasgow throughout my 38 years...the word was used very very rarely...by idiot louts passing by mainly in cars/vans.

I'm really glad you haven't experienced genuine racist abuse. I haven't been so blessed. I remember what it was like before people realised they should think about how they treat people of colour. I have been attacked for being a black bitch stealing a white man away from his friends, for being a Paki walking down the street. Having the door to work closed on me because "we only employ English roses - you might sound alright but our clients could never have you out in public". It's not that long ago.

I don't think he did, it was two years ago and has been picked up by a "journalist" for a red too.

Exactly.

Racism is unacceptable in any form, and should dealt with accordingly , but this (IMHO ) wasn't racism, it was a moment of stupidity that's been turned into a witch hunt.
