Play or no?

Football, that is!

I play once or twice a week. My Achilles feels a little tender and have some discomfort in my calf. I usually wear supports which will help but but don't make a small problem a big one. But I love playing and don't want to let people down as I've already said I'll be there.

I play in four hours. Should I rest or play? Any sporty types out there with some tips on how to soothe niggling muscle strain?

"Bursitis"

As a sufferer of acute bursitis I very much doubt it is that. More likely to be achilles strain, which I have also suffered from.

You need to rest and do appropriate stretches. Ie stand on a step with the ball of your foot and slowly drop your heels down.

Thanks. I've been doing this one. Any other stretches?

Thought that might do the trick

Seriously though, from someone who is suffering 2 years late from ignoring advice to rest.... REST

As with running you'll need to check whether you pronate on your feet or not (inward roll of the ankle as you walk/ run).

You'll need to see if the boots you use can compensate for this or whether you need inserts on the foot bed.

99% of all problems will stem from this

Also check out the adidas micoach app as this has specific training regimes for a variety of sports including soccer

Bristol

I stopped playing around the same time I got boobs (the two may be related). I did just start my Panini World Cup sticker album though - so far only one swapsie needed...

Sounds expensive!

Inward roll of my ankle?

"hih Sandy, i suffer from it and it is a swelling of the sacks around the achillies"

The ankles are not a common joint for bursitis. Hips and shoulders are more common. And if the sensation is a strain in the tendon then it's not likely to be bursitis.

Ps. My name isn't Sandy that's my location!

Phew. I feel for you both. I did a search on it.

I had to change my job because of it! Some days I can't walk...one of a few reasons why I'm not currently meeting. Pain in the arse (quite literally as my arse hurts all the time because of it)
