"I have recently filled in my application form etc and am witing to hear back so I thought I would start to get even fitter as I want to rwally shine and be the very best when it comes to the test and training. Does any one have any advice for me. Thank you in advance. " They re looking more for you giving 100 % effort at all times rather than you being a superman on entry, Having a positive attitude is key, no whingeing about anything, not giving in no matter what happens. You ll require Basic fitness so running, press ups, situps etc, If you re selected the training you ll be given will build your strength stamina to complete the training Good luck

Get fit its a given but start running so you are used to it and not in shorts you don't have to go marathon lengths but 5-10 miles won't harm. Sort your diet out if you smoke cut down or stop and finally be ready for a grueling time as 70%+ drop out.

" .........And if you haven't already, try a site like the Army Rumour Service: ignore the banter and you'll find some good advice and helpful folk there. And to echo everyone else, positive mental attitude is key. Good luck." Sound advice. ARRSE is the place.

"Thanks for all the help guys as for the fitness test I know I can pass them now and I like to think I am very mentally resilient but as someone mentioned before I know that the PTs will prove me wrong but I guess thats all part of the fun " I've met a couple of Marine PTIs on here, pussy cats in bed but boy they were nice to look at. Good Luck OP you seem to have the right drive & attitude, that counts for more then the fitness. As someone can always train to become fitter, but it's much harder to give someone drive or change their attitude xxx

"Get yourself a big rucksack and fill it with heavy weights and practice running miles with it on your back as before you can pass out you will need to carry one miles within a certain time limit. Good luck in your application you won't regret it and remember all the horny lady's love a man in uniform lol " 33 miles in 8 hours across dartmore I believe

"Body weight exercises, 6 mile runs, 3 miles in 22 mins and practice the bleep test. What's your swimming like? You good at heights? How do you find the cold and wet? Get some issued boots but only to break in as you will have plenty of chance to run and yomp in them when you are in training. Doing so now will only break you. Saying that the boots they now issue to recruits are good compared to the shit black cheese graters. As others have said you need a good mental attitude otherwise you will quit. Being cocky is also a bad thing as they will try and break you you you are too gobby. Practice ironing and sewing. " perfectly fibe with heights as I am a tree surgeon at the moment. And I used to be a good swimmer but thats slacked off however I have put together a training plan and that includes swimming 3 times per week.

"Thanks guys. Its still good news that im not permanently medically discharged (dam old sports injuries). Its crazy how somthing that has no effect on a persons ability to train or live a normal life can stop them doing somthing. But thats life rules are rules. " RMC fitness levels are about the same as Olympic athletes. The most common injuries are stress fractures and ripped tendons and muscles. You really need to be 100% fit before starting commando training. Sorry fella. But if you really want to get into the commandos you can always go in through the back door... Join one of the pongo cores and after training volunteer for the Army commandos (Ordnance, Engineers, REME) and then rebadge when you've done your first 2 year tour. I'm out 31 years but recon it will still be possible to get in the army route.
