Just watching the Billy Connolly film "The Man Who Sued God".

Say there was a hypothetical country (for the sake of neutrality) which was atheist (having no official church like the Church of England) or made up predominantly of a certain religion (like Christianity in the UK or Islam in Iran.

Where would this leave the Act of God aspect of insurance?

Would they just find a similar non-religious reason to not pay out?

"Act of God" just means "Natural Consequence"

Why not call it "Natural Consequence" then instead of "Act of God"?

Insurance companies ALWAYS have a reason to not pay out.

lol

The number of things which can be defined under "Act of God" probably make up the majority of reasons why people take out insurance.

Capitalism for you I guess

Rochdale

People often mistakenly assume that insurance companies exist to provide insurance. The truth is that they exist to make money. Selling policies is merely a means to an end.

"Why not call it "Natural Consequence" then instead of "Act of God"?"

It doesn't sound as dramatic
