Fish FIGHT .. Jamie Hugh and others looking to save the seas.

With popular fish species like cod, haddock and tuna under threat, Jamie Oliver is joining with Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, Gordon Ramsey and Heston Blumenthal for Channel 4's Big Fish Fight.

In a series of bite-sized programmes, the chef is taking over the schedules with suppers to help save our seas. Jamie is convinced that people can make a difference, simply by cooking different things and types of fish and seafood – including mackerel, coley and dab – so that we won’t just be reaching for the old favourites during the weekly shop.

“I know you like your fish suppers, but our appetite for the same fish, day in, day out, is sucking the seas dry,” says Jamie. “Two-thirds of the wild fish that we eat are cod, haddock and tuna. Since the 1970s stocks of these three have dropped by up to 80%.

“I wouldn’t bother waiting for the politicians to sort this one out, guys, you can really help from the comfort of your own kitchen. People, just don’t be so boring! Lay off the cod, haddock and tuna, diversify and cook up a wider range of fish.

I love fish and I go in now and ask for different fish . I am laying off the cod and haddock and eating mackerel, coley and dab and loving them as much been doing all sorts and on the BBQ . Was sad seeing boats putting tones of dead fish back in the water .. its food not fish food .

You all cant be meat lovers here Save the Fish .. and I love cod and chips I am asking for coley when I go next they may say oooo your already eating it.

Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, Gordon Ramsey and Heston Blumenthal They ok or don't like them Gran ... I loved Jamie in the fish fight come across as normal . lol

When I was younger we used to have a chalet down at Selsey and one of the great delights was going down and buying the dabs straight off the boat. Back then there were just pennies, and cooked just fried in the pan with butter and lemon were delish

Crabs and whelks straight out of the boilers

Happy memories

Now we eat very little fish as it's only the supermarkets we can get it. I have friends who fish for trout , mackerel and salmon so they are my staples now

Looking forward to my algarve holiday, fish every day, yayyyy

I had visions of Jamie Oliver skelping Hugh Fearnly-Whittingsall with a wet kipper there. Lol.

I don't eat much fish at all, maybe once a month if that so I'm doing my bit already!

I shall have a go at dabs now ... I do love most fish not had a fish I hated so far and had some strange ones from my trips over seas , I had crabs last night cromer crabs and I love them hot baked in the oven with a white wine sauce and bread crumbs over the top with a little cheese .. yummmm and I love just on there own with nice bread . yummxx

I like Simon Rimmer. Enjoy going to his place in Didsbury. Green's.

I am totally besotted by Nigel Slater.

Hugh is okay in small doses.

Used to love Floyd on fish ....

Rick thingy with the little dog ....

Heston is an artist .... love watching him....

But ... a cook is a cook is a cook.

I can't stand Jamie because his cooking is shite. His trick is to lecture and moralise. He's like the bloody smiling actors who turn up at hospitals.

I like Simon Rimmer should love to go to his place to eat .

Nigel Slater really like him too and his show on sky ... I just loved the fish fight on tv as makes me look at doing different things with fish .

Hugh I love him comes across nice on tv and his food . Love giving new things a go .

Love Rick his four restaurants in Padstow . The Seafood Restaurant, St Petroc's Bistro, Rick Stein's Café and Stein’s Fish & Chips. Also have a pub in St Merryn called The Cornish Arms and a fish and seafood restaurant in Falmouth, I go most years . Really like Tom kerridge too and would love to eat at his pub its on my to do list this year .

What do you go for ? I love sea food too .. I eat fish or sea food most days . Never get bored .
