i am studying for exams next week having returned to education as a mature student

i am finding it difficult to study as in remembering everything

any tips or advice from anybody who has "been here done this"

please no comments about getting odd fab and study i am taking a break

serious replies to this 1 would be really appreciated

I graduated 6 months ago from college. Studying was always a pain.

Anyway flash cards were my best friend, because writing down the answer on the card was a way to remember the answer, then the cards themselves were a easy helpful tool to use... I'm sure you know that already though.

I did the card thing as well. Plus a revision soundtrack really helped. And getting someone else to test me on the cards. And oddly, having a tidy room to revise in (and I'm not naturally tidy when working but for that kind of studying I found any clutter a complete distraction).

Mine were slightly bigger than postcard sized. I'd write a topic heading in caps at the top, then key facts, with the key words highlighted. I'd write them out then shuffle and try and recall all the info on them based on the heading alone.

use image association to jog your memory. eg. some parts of a design pattern catalog entry are

- implementation

- Known applications

- related patterns

Take the first letter of each and think of a different word. such as

- indigo

- koala

- rider

I've now got an image of a tiny purple man riding a koala bear - so I just remember that. Doesn't matter if the image makes sense to anyone else - as long as its something that YOU can logically work back from. Sounds crazy but it really works.

I had my exams last week - i went in with braveheart, Lou Diamond Phillips, a concrete block wearing a cape, and the purple koala rider in my mind.

My course is software engineering...

I got an A
