What a stupid literary rule that is! It doesn't apply to dozens of words!

It's always been a source of annoyance for me, like an itch you just can't reach. A bit like that daft phrase we teach our kids about the three 'R's.. Reading Writing Arithmatic .. one 'R', one 'W' and one 'A' in fact. Stupid stupid phrase!

It's a very daft rule.

Bad enough for English speaking people.

Try explaining the point of it to people whose first language isn't English!
