There was nothing wrong with Directory Enquiries IMHO

So I refuse on principle to line the pockets of these companies and have never used them grrrrr

Yes it is - it was something to do with my Mum, I needed to get hold of the hospital in a hurry while driving. Some networks are even more - one would've charged £12.00!! How the hell can they get away with that!!

in that case as a one off essential service i would consider it a good thing ..ok ..it was 7 quid ...but ive spent more on a bad takeaway and got over it ...you got the info you needed at the time you needed it !

A few months back, a front page newspaper article told of how 118 were told to pay back something like £240m because of excessive charges to mainly vulnerable people like pensionners.

The main reasons, IIRC, were that a) they did NOT inform people that their charge was some £2.40 per minute (landline) and b)they deliberately kept people hanging on for upto two minutes purely to increase revenue. Grabbing bastards.

Shame there was no jail time for such ptactices.
