Indeed but sometimes it is the fault of devices that pick unfortunate vocabulary. it is rare to have an erudite profile rather than a frankly noisesome one.

I'm not asking for erudite profiles. I only ask that people understand that it is spelt where rather than ware, great rather than grate and at least attempt to firm coherent sentences, so we don't need to mentally insert full stops to make sense of statuses.

I don't take too much notice as long as it's readable x

I used to be very irritated by it but now I realise that some people struggle with spelling and it's not a sign they are stupid x

Don't get distracted by it x lifes too short

From a personal view when i do things like my profile i find it hard to be me in words as i have dislexia and have suffered with my gramer from a early age and have to comsuntrate and check what i have tryed to say over and over again.but me being me i have tryem to learn and get beter witch i have and i thort this was a swinger site not a can you spell me into bed site.

I am not part of the grammar police, but people not knowing how to use your/you're correctly really irritates the balls off me.

Also, there is no "a" in definitely!!!!!

That said people can make as many other mistakes as they wish, I've probably made a few myself here

We've had messages when I've had to ask Andy to read then, one was only the other day. I'm not saying I'm perfect but at least my messages are readable, usually anyway.

Me too, one of my fave people on here has dyslexia & finds spelling hard, makes him no less intelligent.

I think that being able to understand what someone writes is important and some basic errors do make me mentally "tsk" but I'm not that bothered by grammatical errors.

One needs to be very careful with threads like this because people will leap on any error the op makes too.

Now I'm left wondering of "spelt" is a type of wheat commonly grown in the bronze age or another way of writing spelled..... .

Spelt is a type of flour and I'm sure it should be spelled too "

Spelt is a grain which can be made into flour. Types of flour would be 00 or strong.

What really annoys me is nick pickers, who comes on and doesn't post anything regarding the thread, but just reply's to a post where there is a spelling mistake and corrects it..I just think it belittles some to an extent. I've never been great at spelling or grammar I struggled at school however I do believe that I am far from stupid.

I once saw a guy on here put a post up that was awful spelling and no grammar whatsoever, he was jumped on with people completely ignoring his question and just picking his spelling mistakes apart, I was the only person that attempted to answer his question, he messaged me privately to say thank you and explained that he had dyslexia and had only recently plucked up the courageto use the forums but after the way he was trwtreated he never would again, we continued to keep in contact via pm for a good year and he was a really smashing guy, so many would of missed out on getting to know a top fella just because they were grammar snobs, that is what I find pathetic personally

nothing more embarressing than somone complaining about spelling and grammar than looking at that persons profile and seeing the first word not grammar correct and furthet down "im" instead of "I'm", which I believe you pulled somome up on.

and no spelling incorrectly doesn't bother me in the slightest but posts like yours does.

Yes, some people express themselves better than others, but really, as long as we can understand the point being made, is the composition of a post all that important in the context of a swingers forum ?

I have no problem with typos, an occasional spelling mistake, the odd bit of punctuation missing or slang phrases. No one is perfect and as long as someone is communicating effectively it's not a deal breaker.

However, when I see messages/profiles which, whilst seemingly in English, are utter drivel with zero punctuation, appalling spelling, incomprehensible grammar and littered with text speak I am not so much turned off as completely bemused that any adult has thus far failed to grasp his/her own mother tongue so thoroughly.

And it's NOT dyslexia!

I have to confess i often use textees such as u,r and cos instead of the full words but nothing much more than that cos it irritates me having to translate what people are saying. It also bugs me when people don't use full stops. It makes it hard to read, I get fed up and move on to another profile.

If they can't be bothered, why should I??

As a self confessed member of the grammar police can I just echo DB9 Queen's last comment. Grammatical fuck ups are not Dyslexia. Dyslexia is a medical condition which hinders spelling and reading. It does not make a sufferer incapable of using a full stop and capital letter. One of my real annoyances on here are people who say they are dyslexic when they clearly aren't. Its offensive to those who truly do have Dyslexia.

I'm pretty good at spelling but I don't mind people who aren't. It's the punctuation that I get stuck on so most of the times I full stop instead of comma etc. Just as long as you can make out what the person is saying does it really matter?

Which is what I said. But dyslexia does not account for a lot of what is seen. It really doesn't. I have taught many dyslexic kids in the past 20 years. A lot of them gained C or above for English. Unitelligible nonsense is not a sign of dyslexia.

This. Most people I know who are dyslexic, I find it easy to read what they have written, as words are spelt how they are pronounced.

Text speak is something I use day to day, fairly common for my generation, but I avoid using it here, as I've noticed it seems to irritate people.

It's disheartening. We have such a wonderful, expressive language. The same tongue as Shakespeare, Dickens, Austin, Bronte. Yet so many want to reduce it to gibberish.

Text speak evolved when people had cost and length limitations on texts in early mobile phones. It was an effective way of communicating lengthy ideas/messages in as succinct a way as possible.

However, that is not the case now. People do like to use it still as it is comfortably casual but, in my opinion, it belongs only in text messages.

I have to agree with you, however I'm an old school text writer and write everything as it is spelled correctly..I'm not the brightest spark when it comes to spelling and grammar so do like to write proper English as it enables me to keep learning and spelling new words etc.

This. Most people I know who are dyslexic, I find it easy to read what they have written, as words are spelt how they are pronounced.

Text speak is something I use day to day, fairly common for my generation, but I avoid using it here, as I've noticed it seems to irritate people."

I don't think that's unique to here. Every forum I have ever posted on slates people using text talk.

Like I have said, unless you are actually communicating what you want how can you set up meets? I was not kidding about the message I received. I even asked a friend to help me decipher it but they didn't have a clue what it said either.

I think people being truly unintelligible is quite rare, I've seldom not understood someone at all. What most people are continuously critical of in these postings is spelling and grammar, making people feel inadequate for improper use of their/they're/there and lack of commas, apostrophes etc and simply spelling words wrong.

It often seems these posts a way of separating out from those we feel of superior intelligence to, purely by merit of how competently we write. I find it really unpleasant. But that's just me.

I'm slightly dyslexic, in this day and age with spellcheck and predictive text it's more an inconvenience rather than an issue but can appreciate the problems others will have if it's more serious than mine. It annoys the hell out of me when people who clearly aren't dyslexic claim to be.

As for text talk, I feel that language evolves and some of it like u and lol reflect natural evolution. But I feel that it is as more about the inappropriate use rather than actual use.

I like erudite well-written profiles and those that feature text speak rarely fall in to that criteria. But it's not the end of the world. Like atteacts like. And it's far from the only thing that puts me off a profile.

As for on the forums, I think if you criticise someome else's levels of literacy yours better be spot on because you are fair game. People on glass houses and all that... I also think it's valid when asking for profile feedback.

And bssic grammar is key. It is possible to get your message across if the spelling and punctuation aren't accurate but throw bad grammar into the mix and it can become a near impossibility.

And bssic grammar is key. It is possible to get your message across if the spelling and punctuation aren't accurate but throw bad grammar into the mix and it can become a near impossibility. "

I think we'll have to agree to disagree on that last point. I have no trouble with deciphering at all when grammar and punctuation is lacking. The only thing I tend to struggle with is slang which I don't get because im too old - and have to embarrass myself by asking - and some (but not all) text speak.

On a profile yes as its something people should take time over but the odd typo is nothnig to hang someone over in the forums no people type quickly and mistakes are made its a given.

I've never been a fan of text talk on a site like this, when you have a QWERTY keyboard in front of you.

Even on a phone though, is it really time consuming to write words out fully?

Commas, apostrophes etc. I can tolerate though.

I have to say my single female friend on this site will not respond to messages from men who have bad grammar or spelling. I keep telling her your here to fuck them not mark them out of 10 on there grasp of the english language.

Looks like I've opened a can of worms here. I was really talking about those profiles and messages that are unreadable rather than simple spelling mistakes. Anyway, doesn't look like I'll be getting many messages now so who am I to complain
