Has anyone here tried hot yoga?

I'm looking for a way to de-stress...as well as develop balance and flexibility and tone my muscles a tad.

It's around £10 a session here in Solihull/Birmingham... Are the benefits worth it?

Or should I just buy a DVD ...which will probably just gather dust!!

I bought a dvd years ago....it's gathering dust You could always try it out first in a class and then get a dvd

I fear I'll topple over during one of the poses... The main reason I'd like to go is also what's holding me back...my decidedly average sense of balance!

I think I'll brave it though.....

Count yourself lucky you don't have big boobs

I'm just afraid I'll prove how stiff I am when I wouldn't be able to get into position...so to speak

I think I'm going to practise touching my toes for a while first.

Wouldn't mind a big pair of boobages to play with.....perhaps during the post yoga cool down!!

I fear everyone will be flexible, nimble and in shape.... I'll be the newbie with the freshly pressed gym gear, head band and brand new yoga mat with matching water bottle ...who doesn't have a clue

Ha ha I was like that when I started Power Walking. Nice new gear, bright clean trainers that I didn't want to get wet or dirty. Now I don't care, although I've just bought new trainers so still a bit fussy where I walk. Lots of country lanes round here

Good luck and let me know how you get on

No going back now... Decided to attend a hot yoga class...

New shorts and vest are being dispatched.... Hopefully they'll arrive by next Saturday!

I'm going to be so rubbish - will endeavour to arrive early and take up my position at the back, away from any people and mirrors!!

I don't do hot yoga as I can't stand heat. You will be able to stretch further as your muscles will be warm but take it easy for your first session.

I started doing yoga because I have Meniere's and fall over a lot. I used to have problems controlling my breath too. Yoga is great for both. I love my class because we have a laugh and it keeps me flexible.

Remember, it's not competitive. Enjoy.

Thank you.

You're very right.. I hope to gently explore what my body is capable of and hopefully improve my sense of balance.. My ankle feels a bit sore, otherwise I'd have gone tomorrow. I hope I can commit - for at least 6 months - part of my massive list of new year resolutions!

Give it a couple of goes and then assess. Your teacher may not be the right one for you. Hot yoga may not be for you. Find another teacher/class and try that.

I hated it when I tried 20 years ago because large sweaty classes with a teacher using the Sanskrit for all of the poses doesn't work for me. I attend a small class with lots of one to one support as my teacher will adapt routines to deal with particular injuries or problems.

when you start you really need an instructor, yoga isn't about distressing, what you need is tai chi,

we have an amazing instructor in our martial arts club, a good instructor is essential

Ive done yoga for years. Great for your body and mind. Lovely way to practise relaxation, calming etc, and you will become more supple. Balance improves quickly, though I sometimes wobble, but everyone is focused on themselves, as it is not competitive. Sit at the back of classes till you increase your confidence there. Totally recommend it for what youre looking for.

Just go hit the gym!

...get all your frustrations out through those squats and deadlifts.

That will do the job. Trust me.

Well, it does for me.

It's not the same at all. Plus guilty wants to work on balance and yoga postures are good at achieving balance.

I've even bought a balance board and am thinking about learning to skip (currently I look like a frightened horse when I use a jump rope!)

Multi pronged attack!!

Can you stand upright, feet together and still (no swaying) with your eyes closed? If you can you are half-way there.

I started running recently and my PT advised yoga as a way of getting better stride length to increase pace. I have no balance or rythmn and I love yoga. Find a friendly class and everything just works.

I have little rhythm too - in fact I'm particularly rubbish at the dancing games on the xbox - for now at least!

Yoga is fantastic . It's about practice not competition . It will assist with your balance x I would not do hot yoga I think it pretentious, what tiny little extra suppleness one may achieve is negated by the impact higher temperature excercise can have on the body and heart . One to work up to not start with.

My advice for calm and balance is to always stand in queues on one leg .

Lol, I fear I may look like I either need a pee or am about to have one!!

I'll see what next Saturday's bikram class is like and look for others that I feel I may connect with in the mean time.

Luke overcome your fear x

Ignore what people my think humans do a lot of silly things because of, and don't do many positive things because of what others may think x

Yoga is about daily practice not once week class xx

That I understand - I'll have to try and make time...I have football twice a week and am also trying to squeeze in the t25 training at least 3 days a week too.

I need two of me...or at least one very disciplined version

Best Yoga around is DDP Yoga! Gives you a cardio workout, burns fat and makes you buff, all while improving your balance, and it low impact.

Seriously, people couldn't walk, and started going this and now they can run haha
