"I will tell a true story here....my Danish mor far (mothers father) was Danish and during the war he took the Jews to Sweden in the blue boats... He escaped death by the skin of his teeth....anyway I went to a museum and I saw his name on a tree it was dedicated to what he did during the war...my mor far hated anything to do with Germany until the day he died. " People are alive because of his actions.

"I recall some years ago we had an Auschwitz survivor come to the school to tell his story. That was more disturbing and heartbreaking than any film I have seen or book I have read on the subject." Indeed. Those I have met who are able to tell their stories are heartbreaking. Dame Steve Shirley is also interesting to listen to on being put on the Kinder Transport and what was left behind.

" I watched this film chops.. It's one thing that upsets me... The treatment, was unthinkable... Not a lot phases me.. I deal with death unfortunately on a daily basis, i sat with a young girl this evening she was distraught when her fathers status was changed to do not resusitate, it's a job I switch off.. But I'm not quite sure... Things like this play on my mind for days.. I'm unable too switch off, where things like this are concerned. We will ever truly know or understand what they went through.

"The boy in the striped pyjamas is a well-made film telling a true and very disturbing story. Everyone ought to watch it, but not everyone can and that's very understandable. I have also read the book and couldnt put it down - but somehow seeing it on film brings it all closer to home. Like many above, I'm glad I watched it, but couldnt watch it again." Agreed think it's a fantastic film although desperately sad, it's important that these 'real life' stories are told in sensitive manner! Just back from Berlin the other week, where I was actually stood in cold war nuclear bunker built at the end of Ww2 so all the more poignant!!!

I read the book, and the author John Boyne wrote a special note saying that the story was completely fictional. Fantastic story though.
