I hadn't thought about this till I was asked at lunch time and it made me think as right now I don't mind but should I?

I meant the Ecigarettes they vaporise nicotine in liquid so no smoke just a vapour puff I assumed it was totally harmless but now I am wondering.

hmmmm..that's a good point.

I don't know the answer but I'd say it can't be any worse than real actual fags, I don't mind being around smokers even though I don't smoke myself.

Worst thing they can do is ban them, restrict them in some way and it goes underground. At least now you can go to correct retailers, or shit ones but you know the correct ones regulate themselves.

I guess the problem is that they just don't no how harmful the vapour is.Think Witherspoon have already banned them.Somebody I worked with used one in the small canteen at lunch time while I was eating.I thought that was a bit unfair.Although he did stop when i told him to.

A lot of people think and describe these as 'healthy', but in fact, they're not. They are marketed as a 'healthier' alternative to smoking - a different meaning with a different word!

There is yet to be more research done to determine any long term side effects, but to be honest, I prefer them being a non-smoker than breathing in the 'real' thing.

Not bothered in the slightest. They are not cigarettes, imo, which would be tobacco containing fag things that are burnt. There is terrible pollution all around us, notwithstanding last weeks record smog, that is breathed in and consumed all day long. A little vapour thing is nothing.

That said. What happened in the good old dad when people went cold turkey? Have people got less will power these days or is it a form of laziness? Not having a go. Just curious on how so many people did t in the last without all these latest gadgets and why people can't do that now.

Basically I meant if we wanted to give up something years ago. We just did it. We didn't spend money on substitutes that looked similar. Coffee/alcohol maybe bad for you. But years ago people used to just give it up. Like they would buy tea or ask for a soft drink at a bar. Now they get Decaf and non alcoholic beer, etc. Shows times have changed and clever retailers have found a gap in the market.

yeah I get u...but life becomes a little boring when you dont do things that might be risky..in some ways..

take this scene...its not 'normal' to everyday society's view of what sexual enjoyment is...its been a struggle for people to be able to identify their sexuality...its even more a struggle being on a scene that promotes group sex as its even outwith the sexual boundaries of a 'normal' 'healthy' 'relationship'

so my point?- we do stuff cos we want to..most of us earn our way through our lives...if I'm not harming anyone with what I take or do..I should be left in peace.

Good point. But say you did it for the money. What's the point as you'd still be buying the e-cigs anyway. Not only that, but you still blow your own germs onto people. So it's still bad for others. Although I admit not as bad. Also sexual preferences isn't that bad as surely if you check yourself regularly and take the right precautions. You will be fine? Smoking/drinking you aren't. So when you drink/smoke other people may take an interest whether it's their business or not. Sex is private and is behind closed doors. So people either don't know about it or don't care as they don't see it. I think I am saying all this because I have seen people complain about stuff that they can sort out easily, but refuse to and it gets a tad annoying at times.

Was thrown a little when a colleague got what looked like a mini flute out and supped on it but its better than being exposed to cigarette smoke I guess. Yet to see anyone light up in a building, that might cause conflict.

Im amazed how many shops have popped up selling the e-cigarettes. Must be phenomenal profit margins.

E-cigarettes pretend to look like real cigarettes which is the reason they want them banned, they belive it encourages children to smoke the real thing.

Vaporizers on the other hand look nothing like cigarettes, are much cheaper and the liquid comes in various flavours.

There should be no smell from a vaporizer as all that is being blown out is steam. The nicotine itself is absorbed during the inhalation and non is released in the steam. Nicotine is a poison and a killer if ingested in large quantities and addictive but in the small quantiles used in the liquid its not that harmful. Normal cigarettes contain over 2000 chemicals and the act of burning the tobacco/chemicals makes them carcegenic and harmful to others.

In E-liquid there are no chemicals that you find in cigarettes however that is not to say that the act of inhaling the vaporised liquid is not harmful, as of yet they don't know if it is or isn't.

I think you will find there are a couple nicotine being one of them.

No one is suggesting it's good for you - just a lot less bad.

The vapour is mostly propylene glycol - the same stuff they use to make theatre smoke with - so if it bothers you, don't go to the theatre or a concert.

The nicotine issue is a red herring, nicotine is virtually harmless, present in a wide variety of plants we eat, only mildly addictive if consumed in concentrated formulations.

Sure, some kids will try them to copy adults - just like they do with cigarettes. I know which I'd prefer my kids to try, though I'd prefer they didn't try either.

The human race has this trait that likes to stop other people doing something they don't like, regardless of any factual evidence. It looks a bit like smoking, therefore it must be bad, so we should stamp it out.

Vaping helped me quit a 40 a day, 30 year rollup habit. I've been off rollups for 4 years now, and vaping less than when I first started. I can run faster and further, my sense of smell has improved, and my bank balance has benefited at the expense of the treasury.

Having spoken to various pubs about it, many have been forced to impose the ban by the brewery chains as there have been complaints from smokers about it being unfair that vapers can vape indoors.

Also, there have been instances of people lighting up cigs when seeing someone vape, and then arguing the toss with the staff.

I can see the time when they will be banned in public buildings and workplaces. Thankfully, I've enjoyed the honeymoon period when it was under the radar.

Well I know it goes back into the nhs, but was just wondering with less surgeons/doctors being needed in this area, people working for longer. So they pay tax for longer. Would love to know what goes into the nhs tax wise and how much they save when their are less patients.

Yeah, smoking related illness costs the NHS around £5Bn pa, HMRC collects around £13Bn in revenue from tobacco (BBC figures) - so, I have always contended, that smokers should get private rooms, better food, leather sofas, dancing girls etc., in recognition of their contribution.

Financially it looks on paper if you add in reduced pension payouts for early death the government are better off if people smoked. But if you included benefit payouts for people who were unable to work due to smoking would it go the other way? It does make you think about the bigger picture.

less harm than smoking and pollution..could EVEN be less harmful than incense burners in my opinion.

giving the fact they become vapor rapidly I'd also say they must be diluted much more easily than other pollutants.

people have inhaled dried plants for thousands and thousands of years all over the world... when it came to the western world thats when they started adding in more chemicals...even roll ups(with the use of a filter) are considered more healthy than a cigarette, due to less chemicals!

I do think it can look unprofessional in the workplace though...I know it isn't a cigarette, but when you're speaking to customers and puffing on an ecig I just think it just gives the wrong impression

Everything else is an argument based on people's viewpoint - but it can't be based on facts until they release details of the effects they have.

yes.. more people have caught addiction from inhaling nicotine from other peoples cigarettes..both real and e-fag, than those that have caught cancer from passive smoking
