I've painful muscle tension in my neck and shoulders

Somewhere in North Norfolk

I can't afford a massage.

Any other suggestions on how to deal with it, please? It really hurts.

not far from iceland,,,,,, tescos is nearer though :-) (near leeds)

Costa Blanca Spain...

A true and very sad story.

Just over a year ago a good friend of ours was complaining about pain in his neck and shoulders. He assumed because he did quite strenuous manual work that he had strained something and went to see a doctor who specialised in sports injuries.

The doctor couldn't find anything specific, gave him some pain killers and told him to rest.

A week later he dropped dead with a burst aorta. He was 47.

Go see a doctor NOW.

I have worn neck vertebrae and some misshaped discs in my lumbar region.

That may be true but it's also a little bit dramatic, don't think there's a need to terrify people. Most people will simply have a sore neck and shoulder and will also know why.

I'm off right now for my three monthly massage to ease the tension from sitting at a PC far too much.

If you swim breast stroke ( and most ladies seem to for some reason ), you will probably only make your neck worse because you swim with your neck bent right back.

Jump onto Google and take a look at neck and shoulder stretches and so them 10-20 times a day.

Phone your docs or jump on your local nhs site and get the number for your local nhs physiotherapy self-referral, or get referred through your GP.

Do not see a GP who will tell you to rest it and take painkillers.

Dramatic? possibly. However much better to have it checked and be told that it is a strain, than not to and discover the hard way that it was something else.
