Too old for long hair?

Jump to newest

By (user no longer on site) OP

Just wondering others opinion on is there an age when you should no longer have long hair. I love my hair and it's all completely natural and reaches to my bottom. I've had long hair for as long as I can remember but have recently had a friend mention that maybe it would be better to have it cut into a more practical and sensible style especially as I'm a mum to four little ones as would take up less time. I know there will come a day when I probably will look too old for long hair but surely not at 35

Your hair is lovely, key word being 'your' if you love it that's all that matters. I'm a lot older than you, my hairs no way as long but still quite long for an 'older' woman but I'm not cutting it off for anyone.

she didnt say you were too old to have long hair though did she?

its personal choice, they do say that when you get to a certain age that you shouldnt have long hair because it can make you look older. i dont know what age that would be though.

"maybe jealousy is the motive? "

I rang and asked my mum as my friend wasn't very nice the way she said it and my mum said she was just being jealous. We have been friends for 25 years and it's not her normal way which is why I wanted to check.

My mum bless her said its because she has been grey for the last 10 years and I look in my 30s and she looks in her 50s even though she is younger than me lol got to love my mum xx

I'm 51. My hair, when wet, reaches my waist but being curly it's an inch or so below my shoulders when dry.

I believe that no woman should EVER allow herself to be told what to look like.

Wear your hair as you bloody well like.

Yeah she did she said at my age and with my children it would be a good idea. Think her words were that in her opinion long hair only really looks good on teenagers and into your 20s. Xx

Can you manage it even with small children?

If yes, why change it on the basis of what one evidently jealous friend says.?

I had all my hair cut short when I had small children. Five years ago I decided to grow it again and it is now almost down to my waist and I am 56. I am often complimented on my hair. Don't let anyone tell you what to do its your decision and your choice x

It was halfway down my back but now it's on my shoulders.

I had it short and spikey in my late teens-early 20s. Never again.

Don't cut it all off. Just have a trim.

It'll grow back. If you're not going bald that is.

I hope my hair goes a good shade of grey if it goes grey at all.

Sounds like hair envy.

Often women cut their hair into short sensible styles that look a bit old-fashioned and I think that's more ageing than long tresses.

Wear it how you're happy with it, it's gorgeous hair, feminine and very sexy. Id love long thick hair, even at the decrepit age of 40.

Love seeing a woman in her sixties rocking a killer long grey/white bob.

If your hair is always up or in a pony tail and never down in all its glory ... Then prob best to cut some off.

Hair v long is old, needs good condition and trims.

I've never bought into that, "when women get older, their hair should be shorter" thing.

I worked with a lady who had lovely long and natural waist length hair. It really suited her. She cut it into a bob and while lots of people commented, not many actually said they liked it. Put years on her

Maybe it was a bad cut/style too but I say if it suits you and looks good, then it suits you and looks good. Sod that hair to age rule!

My hair is still quite long and I have no intention of getting it cut short. Made that daft mistake before, as for it being easier to manage with kids etc thats a blatant lie to me, spent more time every morning trying to style it to look remotely decent. At least with long hair if you can't be bothered you can always tie it up

Well I'm older than you and have only had long hair since getting into my thirties (did the whole bob/shoulder length layers thing for most of my twenties). I'm apparently breaking all the rules since I also have a fringe and a centre parting, all of which apparently 'age' people past 35. I like my hair the way it is, if other people don't then they can do one. It's mine, not theirs after all and if I want to keep my long hair then I damn well will and bugger the naysayers.
